Check this out,

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/02-0...33597QQitemZ8049095622QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

Just found this on ebay. Sounds good and all but I'm not falling for face value advertising. Has anyone used or heard of usage of these chips. If so do they actually work with out f-ing up your car royaly?

incase you are checking this post after the ebay bid closed here is what is said with out the pictures
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

This particular Advanced Timing Performance Chip uses a special resistance value of 200 Ohms to alter
the ECU Sensor and signal the computer that it's receiving cold air at the most optimal
temperature of 60 Degrees.

The Advanced Timing Performance Chip eliminates the costly parts and even more costly installation of ECU components (many other mods such as the ones made by JET require soldering and modifying the main board) which only skilled professionals can do. The Advanced Timing Performance Chip provides the same end results and the same reliability of these kits but in a do-it-yourself application. There is no risk of engine or electrical system damage since the modified sensor signal will always remain in the same specified range as recommended by the manufacture. Our Performance module work's in conjunction with your Liberty's ECU and will not affect engine reliability or fuel economy!

By using The Advanced Timing Performance Chip, your Jeep Liberty's ECU will receive slightly adjusted ratios which make your vehicle think its taking in more cold air, which in turn will cause the Air/Fuel ratios to be slightly adjusted to offer more performance & increased horsepower. This is the same concept that the ECU components do but at a fraction of the price!

Installation of our Performance Enhancer into your vehicle is very easy and requires no special tools. We provide step-by-step instructions with the modules, and also will have customer support available at any time via [email protected]

Our Upgrade can be easily installed by anyone, from a novice to a professional mechanic in minutes!

Don't know about this one, but a couple of other posts place performance enhancing chips in the categorie of Enron stock.

I wouldn't mind getting it being as it only cost $15. I just don't want to be paying $500 three months later for a new anything.

I would NOT buy this item!

From reading the ad, it sounds like this "chip" tricks the engine into thinking that it is running at optimal temperature, and thus it should be providing optimal power.

So #1, it only works if the engine is NOT running at the optimal temperature. If it is optimal, no gain would be seen
#2, Why would the jeep have a temperature sensor at all if it were safe to ignore it? Do you really want your engine to keep going when it overheats?
#3, this "chip" sounds suspiciously like "a resistor".

Finally, would you buy an electrical component for your vehicle from somebody who calls resistance an "Ohm Value"? That'd be like taking your jeep in to get the blinker fluid replaced (which reminds me, my blinker fluid is running low)

EDIT: Also - the seller has some nasty negative feedback. Mostly complaining about his shoddy products, poor communication, slow shipping. One even says what I had guessed "NO CHIP A LOUSY RESISTER...DUH".

Interesting posts...........You have to be careful.......There's a lot of snake oil out there.

Sometimes you have to ask yourself......Why didn't DC use those or put a turbonater in, or does NASCAR use these? ??? hmmmmm

That's why there's a HEMI...Hmmmmm an SRT Liberty...Now you're talking...................... gotta get a HEMI........

It's real simple, do not but any item off Ebay for the Jeep Liberty unless it's from a nationaly recognized company.
This "chip" is junk. After a little while your computer will recalibrate itself and make the chip pointless. Do you believe if it really was the wonder bullet, it would cost $4.
This also goes for the non-name brand intakes, and the tornado devices and the TBs and that little plastic fan that they call a turbo.

I once saw a electrical system grounding strap for the Liberty on Ebay, that said you'd get a 25mpg increase. As if the Liberty isn't already grounded...

sounds to me like all this chip does is trick your jeep into thinking its cold outside so it shoves more fuel into the engine. Probably wouldn't hurt the vehicle persay, but it will lower your gas milage and junk up your spark plugs a bit sooner.

Normally you would see people doing this with the little honda's and nissans. One guy I used to work with had a sentra R and had heard about jumping the wire on the temperature side of the mass air flow sensor to trick the car like its running in 32 degree weather. It didn't hurt it any, just used more gas and smoked a little black out the tail pipe. Did take a tenth or two off his quarter mile time though, so it was doing a little bit of something maybe.

If you don't care about your gas milage, or spark plugs, then its no harm to the vehicle.

I am not sure why the guy would say 60 degrees is optimum though, because the colder the air is, the more fuel the engine needs, so if you had it thinking it was colder outside, you would get more of a gain out of it. Who knows. I don't think I would bother to buy one, but it really shouldn't affect the car to much.

Just my .02 cents.
