Hi all! I'm new to the forum, but love what I've seen so far. I own a 2003 Liberty that has been working great! Came with one grey key, so had another programmed shortly after buying the jeep. Has worked fine for several months, both keys work well etc until the other day. Left work and it started fine, went to the local store for some groceries on the way home. Went to start the jeep after loading groceries and the key wouldn't turn to the start position. Did a little research and figured actuator pin and ignition switch will likely be the problem. Replaced both and sure enough, it will turn to start position once again. I unhooked the battery to replace those items so I didn't short anything out. Once all back together, hooked battery up and tried to start. Cranks over fine, but won't fire. Have checked all fuses under hood and by drivers door panel. All seem fine. Any suggestions? When I first start cranking the picture on the dash with the crossed out key appears for about 3 seconds, then goes out. Not sure if it did this before or not because it's always started. I saw someone state that if the fuel gauge doesn't work then it could be a grounded crank sensor and computer will shut down. Gauge works fine. Remote door locks work too.
Thanks in advance!

Update

Checked with a scanner and have a P1389 code. No ADS relay output voltage @ PCM. When I look in the relay holder under the hood, I see where it should be, but there isn't a relay holder in that location....

I just got this code when I pulled mine to crank it and get some oil flowing before starting. You can swap in a like relay and try it. I think the AC compressor relay is the same. Any idea why it wouldn't be there?

Sorry should have said, if you can find it, you could try to swap.

I've no idea why it's not there, but obviously never was. Perhaps that system isn't on all Liberties? I've checked all fuses I can find. Seems really odd that it started fine, ignition wouldn't turn to start, now won't fire once ignition was replaced?

Looks like there has been some serious Monkey business going on there.

How can the Jeep run without an ASD Relay???? confused2.gif
Get a relay in there and see what happens!
This what my 04 panel looks like and bellow the ASD should be a spare!

It's working now!

Ok, so for whatever reason my lil Liberty must be special? It doesn't have a relay for the ASD, nor is there even a spot to plug it in. Looks factory, hasn't been cut etc? Back to the original problem and that was the actuator pin broke and I couldn't turn the ignition to start. I replaced both the actuator and the ignition switch, re-assembled and key now goes to start nicely, but no firing at all. Not even a hint! After several hours testing circuits etc, mega learning and trying to figure this out, I decided to go back to where I started. I removed actuator pin and ignition switch once again. I couldn't see where I had done anything wrong, spring back in place etc, so I put the old ignition switch with the new actuator pin in. Buttoned it up and it works fine. Must be a problem with the new ignition switch? Or I actually did something wrong the first time and succeeded the second time around? Either way it's working once again! Here is a pic of the actuator pin that broke in case someone else has a similar issue.

Glad you fixed ignition and it is ok now but..
I just checked the Power Distribution for a 2002 & 2003 FSM and it should include a ASD.
Very strange.

I totally agree! All my research today indicates it should be there. Inside cover indicates it should be there.... But it's clearly not. LOL, I guess if it's working I don't need to worry for now! :emotions34:
