I don't know who makes the batteries for Mopar, but someone does and they just put a Mopar sticker on it. I know Mopar does not make batteries. They are not bad as I am still running the OEM Mopar battery since the jeep was new with no issues. It always starts weather it is minus 10 or +90 degrees.

That said, I would replace it with an Interstate or a Red Top preferably and with the highest CCA I can get.

Just my opinion.

Well I got the battery tested, it failed at Pepboys, (I had to wait 50 minutes for it to charge) so I got a Bosch brand battery. Hooked it up, Jeep started with some slight hesitation, but ran normally. Restarted it a few times, started like normal.

I think I'm going to have to give it a good wash, and cleaning inside. I started to feel bad for it now that it had a battery failure :(

:)

Thanks :)

The Mopar battery is an Exide brand.

What was the CCA rating on that new Bosch battery? I thought about putting a bigger battery in mine but it came with a new battery when i bought it so i will live with the 600 CCA until it dies. Looking at the 750 or 1000 CCA batteries in Advance Auto Parts i don't think they would fit, too tall and might hit the hood.

I can vouch for Optima batteries, wish i could afford to put a red top in the KJ. I have a Yellow Top deep cycle in the radio room for battery backup on the ham radio gear, that thing will run all the radios for hours and hours if the power goes out.

It's a 770 CCA I believe. As long as it's group 34, shouldn't the other ones you said had 750 or 1000 CCA fit?

This was the only one they had, it says on my receipt "34-770B."

770 CCA should be fine. The stock Mopar one was 600 CCA as I just looked at mine.

Yeah, you are correct. Any CCA rating battery will fit as long as it is group 34.

The Rennegades come with a higher output alternator for the off-road lights so they might have had a higher CCA battery standard.

I will have to look again, the 1000 CCA i was looking at was group 34 but i swear that thing was like two inches taller than the one i have in there now.

What is the stock alternator output on the KJ?

It is 136 amps. I think the Renne with the off-road lights on the roof had a 160 amp alternator as standard.
