02 Limited with lots of goodies, Rock Lizard Full Kit, ARB lockers F/R - 3500 - Local Pickup Only Maine

It can be yours! I’m sure everyone here knows how much went into this, so it’s a great platform to start a rebuild on as LibertyTC says. EDIT P.S. It may not even need an entire new engine

    Diagnosing noise

Would that be an up/down slop? In/out slop means bad CV, or intermediate shaft splines right? I'll look at that while it's on the lift. My friend did ask if the carrier bearings have been serviced, is that the same thing?

    Diagnosing noise

I think the front CVs are fine as they, and the intermediate shaft were replaced last year. When I put on the new hubs I made sure that everything spun freely, they felt ok and I didn't notice any noise or binding. The noise isn't really apparent until about 15-20mph, then it's constant.

    Diagnosing noise

That's good to know. The core fee is more than the caliper itself. Napa it is! As for the noise and thump I'm experiencing, I'm going to a new friends shop to remove the front driveshaft this afternoon. Fingers crossed that it's the source of these issues.

    Diagnosing noise

Any brand recommedation for the calipers? I hadn't tried to remove the swing arms yet. They have a bunch of slack in them so I figured the internals were done. Ok, good to know I'm not wasting my money. The hubs may have been unnecessary though. Thanks for responding Tom

What did you do to your jeep today?

Installed new wheel hubs and front brakes. Stops a whole lot better now. Have a good list of spring repairs to do. The salt was not kind to the ol' Jeep this winter.

    Diagnosing noise

I just replaced my front brakes, and replaced both hubs. I've had a squeal/screech for the last couple of months. Both front wheels had horizontal play so I figured the noise was due to a hub failing, it is over 240k after all. I'm not sure what the noise is now, so any direction on...

    preemptive head gasket replacement?

Seems to me with all the work you've done on it that you now have a new Jeep! Long trip with an old vehicle just means you'll need to be monitoring everything a bit more. White smoke is normal. I had a similar heart drop moment when I the Jeep getting started from inside the house. White...

    Towing Capacity Questions

Sota is right there may be a question of legality. I'm not sure if your GVWR only allows you to tow 3500# because that's what the factory made it for or if it came with the towing package then the GVWR would allow 5000#. Not really sure about that, but you may want to check. I tow regularly...

    ARB 2000 awning

Hey Lee, The ARB 2000 is a pretty amazing addition to the vehicle. I installed mine several years ago at this point, but it's been used constantly since then. I went with the 1250, just because it was all we needed. The 2000 would go up to the front door, covering almost the entire side of...

What did you do to your jeep today?

I've never counted the hours I work on the Jeep to keep it going, but it's gotta be 40-60hr+ a year. Worth it, even if it is ridiculous!

What did you do to your jeep today?

Put in the new viscous clutch fan drive. Problem solved. I also go myself pretty dang stuck yesterday. I was helping my sister move and had the trailer hooked up full of her stuff. We had to offload the trailer at the back door of their walkout basement, which was at the bottom of a small...

    Cooling Fan Stays On

Ok ok, touche, you got me. I did a quick search this morning but didn't see it. Thank you for putting up with my stupidity.

    Cooling Fan Stays On

I'm guessing that this is the problem. Not really sure how to physically access or find an e-copy of the factory service manual, every site I tried wanted me to pay. If anyone has one to share, or if it's on kjcountry, I'd really appreciate having it. Even if I can't do the test to confirm...

    Eisenhower Tunnel Dash Cam

I'm honored to be included in the 4x4 bible. Really tho, this, or a similar iteration, should be in every DMV handbook. People seem to think that their invincible inside the cage that is their car, but that is far from reality. A friend of mine from Jacksonville, FL just lost his mother...

    Eisenhower Tunnel Dash Cam

Safe following distance is so important. A lot of drivers seem to not realize just how far you travel in such a short amount of time. For instance, at 60mph you travel a football field in just four seconds. I try to follow the 2, 4, 8 rule. 2 seconds <55mph, 4 seconds >55mph or if driving...

What did you do to your jeep today?

Been a bit since I've used the Jeep for some real work. Yesterday I hauled a 5000 gal water reservoir to our new property, and then a couple more runs of equipment on the 20' flatbed. As always, the little mule did all I asked of her. Later that afternoon I was pulling and collecting...

    Cooling Fan Stays On

Haven't had a chance to work on the Jeep, but have had to drive it recently. I had to do some towing so was driving it this past week and noticed a few things about it. The fan is staying on when it's really cold, below 20. There were a couple times when I would get to about 4500rpm while...

    Front end noise

I did the LBJ recall and their replacement completely sheared off and sent my then girlfriend, now wife, off the side of the road. Happened less than 100 yards off the freeway too; it would have been a catastrophic failure at higher speeds. Look for a mom/pop style shop to do the spring...
