I saw lots of old threads, but they talked about just debadging and never about putting them back on...

I would like to black mine out, and im curious would it be easier to take them off then reattach them or just tape it off?

Also i saw something about plasti dip. What is it? does it stick to the normal paint?

From what Ive read, it's ok to get plasti dip on the paint as it peels right off of it.

If you wanted to take the emblems off and put them back on, you could use 3m tape. I'd be **** about where they were and if they are straight so I'd probably end up laying down tape as a guide anyway.

Might just be easier to buy plasti dip. I was thinking of doing it today if the rain ever let's up -_-

I've been thinking this through for a week or so now. Plasti dip was what I have settled on. I'm sure you can get it online but i know for a fact they sell it at lowes and home depot too. comes in an all blue can. its rubber based so I plan on clear coating over it.

I havent done it yet but I feel that taping off the letters is the better route as I too would be **** as to putting them back on even. Originally I figured I would just do a full debadge but then I got worried about a few things like the underlying paint leaving ghost letters and lack of a decent way to reapply them, being they are all individual and sit so thin and flush to the body the way they are now. I'd hate to pluck and paint them and then get a big pain in my rear when I went to put them back on :disgust:

The letters on my wifes 02KJ have lost there chrome a long time ago. I always thought of re doing the letters black. Specially since her KJ is Silver. They would really pop.

When I do get around to painting them I was going to leave the letters on the body and mask off between the letters and around the area. I'm not sure if I wanna go with a flat black or glossy black.

I tried the plasti dip twice today and both times it sucked! It does come right off the paint though.

For the time and effort and it took, vinyl would be much easier and look much better.

To add to my earlier post (can't edit from mobile I guess), I did use it to see how my bezzle pieces would look black and I really like it.

That's unfortunate, what didn't you like about it? I got a can sitting here at the crib but it's been pouring everyday...

Did it peel off of the letters too? I'll probably sand them before spraying anything.

Good news that it peels right off the paint though. Lol if I'm feeling really lazy I may just spray the entire area surrounding the letters and then peel the plastidip off them instead of masking each one off with tape. Then maybe get a nice satin/flat black spray can...?

That's what I did and it peeled right off the letters when I started to peel around it. Maybe I'll try taping them off and see if it works better.
