I just found a 2002 KJ LTD with 53,000 kms (32,932 miles) for sale locally. Just wondering if there are any down sides to the 2002s that you might not see with other year KJs ie rear drums istead of disks. I was looking for a 2003,2004 or maybe an 2005 but the low kms cought my eye.

thanks

The drums are not a downside at all. Also, you get a cigarette lighter, AND a power port, AND an ash tray in your dash.

Also, 45RFE is a good thing.

Hmm. Nope, no downsides.

Only thing is, it's a low mileage, 8 year old vehicle, so expect the rubber parts to have never been changed (radiator hoses, etc) and see if the PO has flushed the coolant, check for coolant leaks, etc.

OE coolant is good for maybe two years, then it starts eating parts. If your inspection yields no coolant leaks, good on ya, but get it flushed immediately regardless.

Thanks TBJ, I am trying to find out if the person has any service records. his father owned it and he just pasted away. I find that older people for the most part take pretty good care of the vehicles. he was 80 years old. I find the guys asking price of 9800 high so i may low ball him on it. a website i use says the retail is around 9000 or so

I agree the price is high for sure, I have been looking for a KJ for about 6 months so far. there was a 2003 KJ LTD that just sold for 9000 with 89000kms (55,302 miles) and that one did not have leather. so I don't know I was going to offer somewhere around 8000 for it

yeah I am going to take a look at it and see what kind of shape it is in. the retail is a bit different here in Canada I haven't seen a 2002 sport go for less than 7500 - 8000 with 100,000 miles so i don't know. one of the canadian sites for retail and whole sale said the retail was 9200 on that 2002 but i still find that high.

Check behind the rear passenger doors for rust along the door seam. It tends to bubble up right there.

Also, the leather seats were a bit more comfortable than the cloth versions in the 2002 lineup.

Drum brakes have an excellent parking brake and never wear out or have sticky calipers.. Drums are a major plus in my book.

The 2002 was the best model year because it didn't get impacted by the cost reduction teams that Chrysler releases on a vehcile after it launches.

9 grand really isn't bad for a low mile KJ in Canada. ThunderbirdJunkie should buy KJs here and sell them in Canada :D

I've heard that the 2002 is really good. Chrysler started getting a little cheap on the newer Liberty's so buying the original one is a good idea. There have been occasional reports of a failing cooling fan relay for that year but it is a cheap fix:D Overall getting a 2002 Libby would be a good move. And with 33,000 miles an awesome one. Just get that price down a little bit ;)

9800 is a high but a mint condition 02 KJ can reach that high price and having less than 40000 on a 8 year old car is pretty damn good. I see 2002 models going for 7000-8000 all the time in my area. My fiancee's was 6500 with 125K on it.

on a side note : Nothing beats picking up a 93 Camry with 21K miles on it :p and only paying 3k for it. and no the car hasn't ran away on me yet lol

Heck with the oil, the maple syrup and the BV, we love Canada.:)

I like Canadian Bacon!

I also like how you can smoke pot up there and not get in trouble
(bowdown)

Both good points. I think we'll end up with such a long list the US will have to invade... Or at least I won't leave when I go there for my R&R leave next week!
