I might be totaly ignorant, but what is the purpose of putting this seafoam in your engine, is it to clean the sludge and stuff, if so is sludging a problem, My 05 has 60,000 mi on it, do you guys recomend this. Thanks for any info

Sort of on related topic, found it on a Saturn forum. Good idea, bad idea on our Jeep V6?

MMO Piston Soak
This DIY proceedure is cheap and may help a Saturn with stuck oil control piston rings to use less oil by freeing them up. You'll need:

1. 12oz or 20oz bottle of "Marvel Mystery Oil" available at Walmart (among other places)
2. A spark plug socket, and old towel and AT LEAST 8 hours where you won't need to drive the car.

Does not ALWAYS work but here goes.
1. Remove spark plugs from "cold" engine
2. Pour 1~2 oz Marvel Mystery Oil into each spark plug hole
3. Allow to remain in overnight (at least 8 hours)
4. In the morning, cover the plug holes loosely with a towel and turn over the engine for 3~ 5 seconds with the plugs OUT to purge any remaining liquid MMO.
5. Replace plugs and drive normally after pouring remaining MMO(if you have any left) into gas tank full of gas

NOTE: The car maybe somewhat difficult to start initially after treatment and will SMOKE like a chimney for the first few minutes or so after it does start. This is normal and will cause no damage. Adding an additional 12oz bottle of MMO to the CRANKCASE (even if you have to slightly overfill it) about 400 miles prior to the next 2 oil changes can be beneficial as well.

I think the top end seafoam is worth doing, and can help an engine. that being said...the other seafoam treatments, I am not sold on.

if you do the oil treatment with seafoam, change your oil right after, seafoam thins oil, and will also contaminate your oil.

the gas treatment, well, if you need your injectors that clean, you will end up needing new injectors. do some injector lubricating instead.

as for the mystery oil treatment in the plugs, I dont think I would do all of them at the same time, and I doubt I would do it at all.

The seafoam really does work. I have used it with diesel fuel on my old F250 and it really help quiet the engine and it felt like a little more power. My son also cleaned out the uppers in his 86 Ranger...It looked like mosquito abatement with all of the smoke in the neighborhood but it does clean things out.

ASeafoam works great have used it on the Liberty and other vehicles I have had in the past, did my step dads ole 94 Chev. Blazer finally with 128,000 on it WOW smoked for an hour it seemed like! Cleaned it out good though!!

Midnight, great video. Mine barely smoked any when I did it the first time, or second for that matter. Dont forget to change your plugs.

Newbie Question

I'm a proud new owner of a 2002 Jeep Liberty Limited 3.7L Automatic with 600000Km. My very first jeep.

I'd like to baby it from the go and that means put seafoam in it but as I'm a newbie I don't know what the PCV valve or the break booster line or air intake line are. Could someone please guide me (a picture with arrows would be ideal) and help out someone who doesn't want to ruin his jeep!

I'll add it to the oil prior to an oil change and gas tank but I really want to get to the carbon build up cleaned as well.

Nope I'm very happy with what I found. The jeep is in great condition owned by an old lady who flies south every winter. Came with brand new snow tires too!. I'm just worried about the carbon and possible sludge buildup due to her city driving. So if you can help me locate where to put the seafoam it would be great.

The brake booster line is the rubber hose going from the engine to the round thingy with the brake fluid container attached to it.
 
Top
