My rear driver side window regulator has broken again! I heard the click clack of broken plastic in the door and 20 minutes later the window was half down and unable to be rolled up with the automatic control. I had the stealership fix this very window for $300 in March and here it is broken again (hopefully this is still under some type of warrantee). I've been reading online and have seen alot of people with the same problem, over and over again. Anyone know if there is any type of recall pending on this and if there is actually equipment I can buy which wont keep breaking.

I'm totally pissed and am seriously contemplating charging back the work on my Amex if the dealer doesn't make it right. The way I look at it they are just as much at fault as the manufacture if they know they are installed defective equipment. (they did in fact tell me it happens "all the time")

Over on L.O.S.T. I have a couple of threads on this subject. My front drivers side regulator went out. It cost me $423.25 to get it fixed! The front passenger side is going out also. Believe me Chrysler is going to hear about this!

That is frustrating. Yeah, check on the warrenty. Usually 30 or 90 days or it could be more but you don't know until you ask. I would push it with them (nicely) and see what happens.

I replaced one on my 94 gmc truck a few years ago, and at the time I found out there was rebuilt or new ones. So ask if they put in a new one or a rebuilt. Mine was the drivers side window so I had to fix it right away but the truck had 180,000+ miles on the original one. My 99 Cutlass has a broken right rear window regulator right now but it is a rear one so I taped it up for now until I can get around to fix it, but it is also the original one and it has 148,000 miles on it. Both of those vehicles I bought new so I was the only one using them. But I use them all the time. So I believe they generally should last a longer time.

I don't know if there was any type of recall on them but it seems that there must have been a few bad batches of them or something for the KJ's. Luckilly, I have not had a problem with mine in the 05 MY so I don't know. Course mine could break tomorrow.

I never remember having a manual crank up window not work.....something to be said for simplicity.

Manual window regulators break too. When it happens you have to force the glass into position with one hand while rolling it up with the other

Yeah, it's not entirely unusual in the libby it seems. I've replaced the right rear twice. Once in Aug of 07 and again in Jun of 08. It's not a terribly difficult fix if your somewhat mechanically inclined. I think the hardest part is wrestling the glass back into the track. Other than that it's pretty straightforward.

On the bright side though, the thing only cost me $135 brand new from the dealer, sounds a bit cheaper than what some of you guys have had to pay! :D

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
There will be no recall for the window regulators,it is not a safety issue so no recall will ever be put out for them.Whine all you want, but it ain't going to happen.

If you get the regulator replaced at a dealership you will get a 1 year parts/labor warrenty on it.If you buy just the part and install it yourself there is no warrenty.

It seams like about 95% of the bad regulators are in the '05+ KJ crowd, glad I have a '02:D(I get the better ****** also).I use my windows all the time,I'm a smoker, and in 6 1/2 years zero problems with my windows.

The passenger side front window on my '02 Limited just detached today. Frankly, this is right up my alley, since I am in the OEM glass assembly business for Honda of America. One of my glass suppliers, a PPG representative, also visits Toledo to review accumulated reject parts at the plant and I know PPG does the backlite sub-assy for the Libby, but I'm not sure about the side glass. If I find out that PPG had that sub-assembly, I am really going to pester him!

Is the problem actually a broken regulator, or the holder detached from the glass?

PPG is the supplier for all of Chrysler's glass.

Not sure about anything else.

I understand that they're the supplier for the glass component. That doesn't necessarily mean that they perform all of the sub-assembly work, though. Potentially there could be a third entity or even plant-side.
