    The Little Things

Solid and stable. Actually those are big things, but I like 'em. ;)

    Lug Nuts 04 Liberty

Get yourself some McGards, 3/4" wrench size, 1/2" x 20 thread. Easy to find at auto parts places.

HOW TO: Kayak Rack (for under $35)

Air passing under the bar and over the roof, like a wind instrument. The bars on top of my KJ moan at some speeds or if there's a headwind or crosswind. That reminds me, gotta take them off for the road trip Monday (don't need them and they just add wind resistance).

    New Front Recovery!

Yep, for the extra few ounces of steel and couple of welds, it's a good idea.

So modifications are currently on hold...

That's funny! The other day a friend came to pick me up, and her car was SOOOOO low down it was ridiculous.....and it was a Buick 4-door something or other. I rarely find myself getting into other vehicles, so it's weird to get into a non-lifted vehicle. :D

Need help with rear brake replacement

My KJ's rear brake pads were toast at under 25k miles. They replaced the pads only at the dealers. The rear rotors were/are still good, and the front brakes are still original, still good (47k miles).

    Power steering fluid

The FSM for 03 specifically cautions against using ATF for the power steering pump. Page 0-5. "The recommended fluid for the power steering system is MOPAR Power Steering Fluid or equivalent. Do not use automatic transmission fluid and do not overfill."

HOW TO: Check your Ball Joints

Definitely something to watch. My KJ's LBJs were replaced twice under the recall. That was before I hit 30k miles. I haven't gone with the Moog units yet, but that's on the list. It's only got ~47k miles on it now. Hey, has anyone noticed that some lower control arms are painted black, and...

HOW TO: Kayak Rack (for under $35)

Yep, depending on the size of tubing you use, you could probably just hacksaw up a hockey puck or something and glue the cubes in the ends. If you use the expanding glue (polyurethane, like Elmer's Ultimate, etc) then it'll fill up any cracks. Might even find some chair leg plugs at the...

HOW TO: Kayak Rack (for under $35)

I used 1 1/4" square steel tube, which are mega sturdy and not too heavy, just a few pounds each. For the ends, I cut some blocks out of Honduran mahogany and glued them in with waterproof glue. Then I painted the bars with black rust paint, including the ends of the plugs. I've got a pic...

HOW TO: Kayak Rack (for under $35)

I've had square steel tubing up top for a couple of years and no rusting. I take them off each spring and repaint them. Also I plugged the ends so no moisture gets in to rust the insides.

About to buy a used liberty...

If you do find an 03 built in early 2003, double check to see if it has the 45RFE. Mine was built in Feb 03 and it's the 42RLE. Seems that there was a run of a couple of months there where they kept using a separate TCM, but started using the 42RLE. I know it's been mentioned before, but it's...

How can I make my rear view mirror mount not stick out on the windshield?

Learn something new every day! I had no idea they even had mirror glue. Cool. Hey, I remember those dashboard mounted mirrors, very trendy at the time. Course, we thought big fins were cool, too...:o I suppose if you completely run out of ideas for attaching a mirror you could just use...

    Interior Electrical Issues

Some of us have had to replace the multifunction stalk (the two arms that control wipers, lights, etc.) It can cause light glitches and flickers, etc.

OK Now I'm Moving to China El Liberty!

Good eye on the 8 grille slots Alex, I hadn't noticed that. I think it's the colour that's not right on that unit. I don't actually totally hate it but I think a better colour would do a lot for it. Plus I'd like to see the taillights and the rest of the back.
