So today I've decided to see if any of the UK members want to take my jeep off my hands. I've run out of time, money and enthusiasm to keep on plugging away at it and this is the last step before I weigh it in at the scrappy. It's a 2005 2.8 CRD Auto in forest green. I've put £1000's in to it and now something has made the transmission cooler lines rupture.
It's got 4 new Comforser tyres with less than 100 miles on. It has H&R springs and bilstein shocks and rides beautifully. I've had the rear axle rebuilt with new axle shafts and bearings but having done that the only thing not replaced was the limi clutch pack which I have but didnt get to fit before the hoses went bang. It has a very strong engine remapped to stage 1 200hp. 3 keys. It has Hi Q thermostat, silicone intercooler hoses and viscous fan delete. New discs and calipers all round. I've lost track of everything that has been changed. It really is a treasure trove of spares. Send me a message, I'm in Somerset.

I dropped the pan on the transmission and changed out the filter but not before sucking the fluid out through the dipstick tube. I sealed up a new pan with Permatex 81180 sealer which is made for automatic transmissions and tomorrow I’ll put fresh fluid back in.
For anyone who hasn’t done this before, I highly recommend buying a new pan and not reusing the one you remove. You stand a good chance of bending the old one trying to pry it off and it’s also much nicer to not have to clean it. Just remember to transfer the magnet over to the new one. New pans are in the $35-40 range.
Also, if you extract fluid through the dipstick tube, you make almost zero mess.
I will follow up in the coming weeks, removing and replacing fluid about a gallon at a time until I’m over 90% new fluid. Should take about 5 procedures, but it’s very clean and easy to just suck the fluid out even though the new pan has a drain plug and you can tell exactly how much you remove.

I hit the junk yard and got a new shifter, hatch latch and factory tinted glass for the hatch and fixed panels. The fixed panels were a bear but worth it to me. I'll add to How To.

Can anyone recommend a good heat resistant wire loom that I can use in the engine bay? Most of my black plastic looms became brittle ages ago and have fallen apart, leaving wires exposed. I replaced them once before but the stuff from the auto parts store didn’t last.
Installed my logging road radio yesterday - tucked it away in the center console - didn't want it just sitting on the console next to the shifter and it wouldn't fit in the little cubby under the heater controls.

Five minutes after I posted that I drove off to the gym. Before I even got to the end of the driveway I got the good ol' GASCAP warning again. No CEL. Back to the old tricks, I see.
There's a $25 selonoid immediately available under the hood. NAPA carries the part and that can throw the gas cap error as well. Replaced the gas cap with OEM the first time. No love. Replaced the selonoid next, three month fix. Now I'm ignoring it until I need to get the next bi-yearly emissions inspection.
On my Commander it was the ESIM (emissions pump unit) clipped onto the charcoal canister in back. I also remember that not being very expensive to DIY.
Finding evap hoses that are splitting at the end is free, too. Clip the bad end off and reattach.

I had the evap canister replaced a couple years ago. Since then it throws these random errors periodically, then they just go away. The rub is that every time it happens you can't help but wonder if this time it really means it...

Kind of been on a spree the past couple of days. The coopers are all dated 2014, but surprisingly don't have any signs of rot. I don't plan on using them but I can see me rolling around on them on the project Jeep for a little while if I felt like it. The other four are dynapro tires that are even older. The black wheel is just Plasti dip. The unmounted one however has a large bend and a crack on the back lip. So it's probably scrap. Or, I'll turn it into a hose reel or something.
Today was oil change day. Mileage is 235,383 miles. The Jeep is definitely dirty and beat up by this point. It needs a good wash and interior detail. It also has a bad CV boot on the drivers side axle, an axle seal leak on the passengers side front, and has a decent rear main seal leak. Last weekend I replaced a bad fuel injector and cleaned the throttle body. #jeeplife.
