Hello everyone. I just went to see the new Batman movie. After it was done, I got into my 06 Jeep Liberty, started the engine, and was surprised with what sounded like a Harley. So, my catalytic converter was stolen. It looks like they cut too much away to simply put in a new one. Any suggestions?

Looks like they only got one
Many places sell them, but a lot of the cheaper ones do not flow as well as a Mopar one of course
Youll need from manifold back

I replaced one side that was bad on a local kids KJ , installed new one and had local muffler shop install a pipe from convertor to existing pipes

I think they cut below the v band clamps if that’s a 2002. But you will need a new Y pipe which in itself is an issue. They call that Y pipe a cat too because it has the unmonitored cat at the far end of it before the muffler.

Even if you got some cheap ones off eBay or used oem whatever- I’m sure a muffler could could or would want to make the flanges to attempted to repair that Y pipe.

I could be wrong, but I think this is the first time we've heard of Liberty's catalytic converter being stolen.
Most of the time they are after the larger commercial catalytic converters.
Possibly this looser needed one for their Liberty IDK..:(
I hope a muffler shop can help you out. Best-o-luck !

I have heard of 5 so far
One that was for sale and I went to look at had both stolen the night before
Owner didn't even know it until I got there and it was sitting on stacked springs all around

It's becoming quite the epidemic here in Portland, OR.

My son's 05 had both sides stolen 03/2021 in College Station,TX(where A&M is). National chain wanted ~ 4k and two weeks to replace with Mopar complete assembly. Local independent wanted only ~1200 using universals, so we went with that as a stopgap. Vehicle has been running fine AFAICT, but has had CEL for P0420(I think) for bank 2 post cat o2 sensor per OBD/bluetooth scanner ever since. I told him to keep an eye/ear on performance, thinking harness got tugged on or cut during theft.

Fast forward to 03/2022. He has since moved to one of the few Texas counties that requires annual emissions check with safety inspection, and we cannot get it to clear the code with new downstream sensors both sides. It's tight quarters down there, even for the downstreams, but there was no apparent disturbance of the wiring. Different national chain that issued the emissions fail blamed aftermarket cat's/welding thereof. Said stealership would charge ~ 5k for replacement with Mopar complete assembly but they would do it for ~3k and honestly probably not worth it. We are now checking into getting some sort of exemption or selling to someone in a no emissions test county.
