Jeep's been fine. Other cars... well i've had a hell of a couple of days.
Let the Dodge Shadow go to the great junk yard in the sky (that still hurts. 28 year with that car.)
Dodge Stratus appears to have blown it's engine up last night.
So now I'm down to the Jeep, the Sebring, the T&C minivan, and the SRT-4.
Not a happy man right now.
Too bad about the Shadow. A dodge shadow 2 door was my first vehicle. Really liked it. Wish I knew how to work on cars back then like I do now. I would have had it much longer than 10 years.

NJ road salt took it from me essentially. No matter how hard you try, it'll get you in the end. So many times over the years I tried to do something to keep it going, but it was just becoming more rust than solid metal. The worst part, it was a stick shift, and I built the engine and converted the clutch over to the T3 heavy duty setup; made it a towing monster for its size.

Dropped it off at local shop, trying to track down intermittent "Service 4WD" light.

The Ole' Interwebs say it could be anything from a ECU Flash or Wheel speed sensor to Transfer Case replacement.

Jeep Roulette anyone??

so i found an interesting issue this month. have an 02 kj sport 3.7 4x4. the nut for the mechanical fan clutch has give to it which seems to make the fan wobble. has anyone encountered this. it isnt the water pump because i checked it for play although it has a ton of miles on it and i want to replace it before the impellers get all gross and ruined. anyways has anyone heard of the actual nut on the fan clutch having play in it? never seen this before. you can see the uneven wobble and it is very slight. the clutch works awesome its just the fan wobbles on the clutch when spinning and it is bolted to the clutch very well so it cant be where the fan attaches to the clutch. any input would be awesome. wife bought a poorly taken care of kj and ive been basically replacing everything on it ever since. jeeps arent that bad unless they have piss poor owners which i have lately come to find out. i mean the timing kit design is just awful but other than that i like it pretty well.

i wonder if it being intermittent like that is an indication of an electrical or computer issue?

I flushed out my power steering fluid for new, washed out the engine bay, and filled up the gas tank.
its very smart of you to flush out the PS system. remember to do it every five years because after five years it essentially becomes cutting fluid. my wifes kj had the entire PS system blow all seals lines and pump because the fluid had never been flushed and replaced before we bought it. also since ive converted every fluid to full synthetic fluids from front to back the efficiency of the vehicle at 200k+ is just phenomenal. also dont forget, they say that external fuel filter is lifetime but its really not. change that sucker and youll see the diff.

Well, mines an 04 limited, 4x2... Not having the extra weight of 4x4 components helps. I also was sitting on 3/8 of a tank. When my Libby shipped from the factory, her ship weight was 3675lbs. That was her as she sits now, plus 5 gallons of gas. Seems like she's on the light side compared to the typical liberty.

Keeping with the thread, I changed the tensioner pulley today.
damn 4wd comp rlly is heavy. ours is 02 kj sport 3.7 4wd with hd cooling system and hd tow package. weighs in at a gas guzzling 5600 lbs and some change. all synthetic fluids def roll back that horrible MPG a bit.

Kick that full syn out of the diffs, slings it off toofast, good old dino does way better
You must have aftermarket front/rear bumpers, all skids, rock rails etc if it weighs that much
I have it all on the 04 and its not that heavy
plus I get over 21-22 on the highway at 75 plus , not gas guzzling in my book for all the weight

I'm not sure. I can tell it's been in an accident but the frame is ok. I can try to get you a pic when I get time. Some stuff going on rn with family being sick. Its been more and more reliable the more shit I replace. Dino? Interesting concept for retention. Thank you. I'm always open to learning new things. I've only been working on cars for 12 years and I still need to learn more. Mostly just saving us money on repairs and I enjoy cussing and throwing wrenches. I also enjoy the thrill of a successful repair. It's like a natural high lol.

Used her to drag a euthanized horse through a paddock to the paddock gate so the meat wagon could take him away.

Well, I do believe that THAT is a first...

Hope it wasn't a personal loss.
Was a tennants horse. I did like the horse(he'd been abused when he was younger, so he was very shy, but I tried my darndest to be his friend. But if you even raised your voice to yell to someone down the barn, he would flinch and shy away), but he was 25+ years old.

But yeah, I pulled up and the guy was waiting there with his trailer, but the paddock the horse was euthanized in has a 1' drop on the one gate and the other gate didn't have an angle to get to the horse. So the guy asked me to hook the horse up, and I tried to not do it b/c the rear hitch is "for looks only", then he saw the front tow hooks and I was stuck. I thought the running boards would hang me up, but she made it down just fine and only had a small rubbing noise from the skid plate reversing out.

If I had a dash cam, I think it would have been one of those things no one has seen before.

I've been getting more into prepping lately (like lots of others, I suppose, given our current political/social climate) and so I picked up and installed this little guy: EMP Shield. (www.EMPShield.com)

It fit nicely on the firewall of the engine bay and hooked up easily to ground and battery in less than 10 minutes. I'll let others smarter than me argue about whether the science behind it works, but the way it was explained to me makes sense, and they seem to have studies to back it up.

BONUS: if you are interested in checking it out - www.EMPShield.com - you can use promo code "LibertyOffroad" to save $50 on your order!)

Stored codes showed a T/C issue
They did an update to the ECU, in the hope that would fix it.

Light came on on the way home this evening.
So either it's a $200 control module or a Transfer Case replacement:mad:
