Hi, a friend sold me 5 wheels for $50 with 1.5 inch spacer/ adapters that were on his TJ so they will bolt up. Question is will they work with these tires or with other tires? I plan on lifting 2.5/3 inch. Should I pursue this or just keep stock wheels?

255-75-17s are 32 inch tall tires
need at least 3.5-4 inches of lift
PLUS regear to at least 4.10 gearing to handle that size tire and not end up with no power and very poor gas mileage
If he gave you the wheels would of been a great deal, for 50 bucks, well not so good
How were you thinking to lift it?

Thanks, yeah I was thinking of doing a 3 inch cheepo lift from Rocky Road with new shocks. Will probably get new tires maybe 255/65-17. Im in Florida so it doesnt need to climb rocks, just want a little higher in case of hurricanes.

Please no way should you totally waste your money on any type of spacer lift
first you have worn out springs and shocks , so a advertised 3 inch may only get you 1 or 2 inches of lift and ride and handling will be crap
PLUS Rocky Road is one of the worst companies you can deal with , their OTT lift is pure junk.
Doesn't matter if you climb rock or curbs at the mall,.....you still want a good ride and handling , correct ??
255-65-17 is still almost a 31 inch tall tire so you need a good aftermarket full spring lift and you will notice power loss and gas mileage loss with them , not a huge amount but noticeable

Dude.. in case of hurricanes? Really? 3" of lift isnt' going to help you fjording 24" of standing water (except for that 60ft deep sinkhole in the middle that you didn't know about).

I'd take this opportunity to sell that whole wheel/tire combo back to another TJ guy for $100. Get your $50 back and take your friend out for beers and a nice lunch.

You're going to need to sink $900 MINIMUM into the KJ to get it where you need it, twice that to be able to run the tires on those wheels as is.

But an RRO OTT lift is cheap
why should I spend that amount ? :insane::pepper::headbang::sad72::hahano:

People hell bent on cheap lifts should have stuck with 1980's trucks, or just bought a rusted out YJ with a shoddy half-running SBC swap.

During the years I've lived in Florida even a few inches of lift on a vehicle has been a factor in helping out people in flooded areas as well as clearing debris. So there's that. I'm asking questions about my options. Moneys not really an problem but I dont want to drop 4000 on a lift kit that may never see hard offroad use.

As far as the wheels, everyone is telling me to get rid of them. I have adapters. They look way better than the stock wheels. Would there be any reason not to buy new 17 inch tires that work with the kj once my current tires are worn out? I appreciate the flaming as I am new to the kj platform I'd rather you guys tell me straight up so I dont waste time and money and driveability etc

Thanks

I get that.. I would not suggest a $4k lift for a KJ.. for most people. For sure a modest lift makes a difference. But even if you won't see hard offroad use (neither will I), those same quality lifts translate to better ON ROAD performance as well. Less body roll, less wheel hop, more stability and a smoother, more comfortable ride.

Figure for a KJ that does not need any other parts replaced due to wear or age, you'll end up spending between $1100-$1600 when all said and done for a quality 3"-3.5" of lift that will last the remainder of the vehicle's lifetime.

And that will be done right, the first time. It won't cut corners but isn't throwing every damn thing at the Jeep either.

If you're not able or willing to go that route, then your options are all the junky spacer lifts and half-ass ways of getting lift.. which you'll get.. but it'll ride poorly, may accelerate wear on other parts, and in general be sucky.

I would sell the wheels and get ones that bolt on without adapters. Many great looking wheels out there that will work.
As far as a lift no need to spend 4000 dollars, heck I run jeepinbyals coilovers on 2 of my KJs and 4000 would of almost paid for both of them
You can do a good lift for 800-850 in springs, shocks, bumpstops etc and ride and handle well
As far as going off road I always want to laugh , its like I don't care what it rides like on road . An upgraded suspension will ride ON ROAD 100 times better that even when a KJ was brand new .
My first drive in my 04 when I bought it new , I realized that if I was going to keep it , it had to have an upgraded suspension since brand new it sucked ride wise.
If you build a KJ cheap, ( spacer lifts etc ) you're going to hate it , build it with the right parts and you'll love it
