Good evening guys, I am pretty well versed in fixing cars, but i figured i would post this up on here before i chase this gremlin around.

My wifes 2008 Liberty is having an intermittent starting problem. After sitting for a while (over 2 hours), it will crank no problem...but will not fire. Sometimes it will do this 3 times before it finally fires up. I'm thinking it's either a fuel pump issue, or a spark issue. It gets regular oil changes, and i just changed the plugs 5k miles ago.

I am going to do a fuel pressure test here in the next few days. What sort of PSI should I be looking for on the gauge on this particular fuel system?

Anyone have any other ideas? Once the car is started, is has no issues, sometimes a bit rough of an idle but other than that no issues.

Let me know your input. Thanks guys!

Unfortunately the only stored code was for a loose gas cap.

This has been going on for a few months now, so I don't think that could be the reason behind it. Could it?! Maybe it needs a new cap?

Pressurization is effected somewhat by a bad seal or loose cap.
For the cheap price of a new cap, go to dealer & get a new one!
I just installed a dealer locking one a few weeks back on mine.
My loose cap had some strange stuff going on like gas smell, and fart noise up front (beside me) :icon_lol:
A quick fuel psi reading would be good to know as well.
When it doesn't start would be good to have a reader handy, and see if anything else is askew..

I'll scoop up a new gas cap and install it, maybe that will solve my issues. I also need to scoop up a reader as well, unfortunately only my wife drives it, so I'll have to teach her how to pull the codes.
