The coolant overflow bottle on every KJ I have seen is stained a yellowish tan color. Is this caused by the HOAT coolant or is this from corrosion in the engine? The discolored bottle in my 2003 (newly used acquisition) KJ bugs me but I won't replace it if it will just happen again from the coolant. I have looked at over 20 KJ's and all seem to have the same discoloration. Does anyone know why?

Combination of things,
coolant not being changed as it should be,
coolant with the chemicals in it changing the color of the plastic.
Buddy just replaced his cause he was tired of looking at a discolored one

Actually getting ready to change mine, it's been stained bad since I bought it. I have to put a light behind it or open the cap to see the coolant level.

^ How did you clean the inside of yours Prof?
A few years back before I took mine to dealer to flush the HOAT coolant on their recirculating machine, I removed the reservoir when cold, and used Fantastic scrubbing bubbles cleaner mixed with some LPS De-greaser.
Had to shake swirl and rinse with warm water, that removed some crud & made it like new again.

People who clean out their overflow tanks with small brushes are about like people who paint their intakes and valve covers ...................:whip::whip::icon_lol:

I usually have to shake the Jeep to see where the level is. Once it starts sloshing around a bit I can see it. :icon_lol:

Connections...

Just concluded the discoloration in Libby's overflow tank is discoloration from the HOAT coolant, not rust. Why? Because the overflow tank in my Saab uses the same HOAT and guess what. Its overflow tank is stained the same tannish yellow color with no rust. So the coolant must be the culprit. If I install a new tank, it will look the same eventually. So learn to live with it is my conclusion.

Agreed, 2011 Avenger here with HOAT and same discoloration. Been that way ever since I got it when it was a year old.
