Hitchcans? A blast from the past...

Todd gave me his drawings and I came up with this… I am going to try and get a local fabricator to make me one too.

How about inverting the shovel so the blade is between the can and the spare. :icon_biggrin: I'd raise the hilift so it doesn't drag.

Looks pretty simple to me. Cut some tube stock at an angle and weld it up, throw some brackets on it, paint it, and call it a day. If you don't know how to weld, it should be pretty easy to just buy the tube stock, cut it yourself, then take it to a shop to have it welded. I don't see why it should be too expensive at all.

May have to go that route. Don't own a welder, and would be liable to start something on fire if I did.

Would be courious how much it costs for someone to fabricate something like that.

If the dimensions in the CAD program are accurate and the final project design is well thought out, limiting adjustments for fit, my guesstimate would be $250- $350 with new materials. (they could do the whole job out of the scrap bin.) A good buddy with a welder and tools. $50-$100 cash plus materials and a 12 pack. :icon_wink:

You'd have to decide what kind of cans and corresponding mount, which length of HiLift and what kind of shovel(pick a brand that has been around a while). You'll need one of these: 12" Hitch Extender For the shovel: drill a hole in the blade to mount on a stud with a padlock. For the HiLift: 2 studs and 2 padlocks with the lift mechanism situated between the 2 studs.

Would it be possible to get the CAD files for this? Any version of AutoCAD if available would be great.

Looks nice

BUMPING this back up... How is the licensing approval coming along?!

Has ANYONE actually built a Hitchcans rack yet for their Libby?! I haven't seen one around, and I'm about ready to have one fabbed up locally. Curious to see what's out there. I'll be adding a pair of Scepter 20L cans on mine. Not sure what else...probably by shorty shovel and a hi-lift or something...we'll see... :friday:

Bummer. Thought that was a good idea for a moment then thought 8 should probably ask ha ha. Well thanks for the input. Need to come up with another idea I spose.

How about adding a jerry can to your roof mount? I saw a Jeep Liberty online and it looked good for off-roading.

I just made this last weekend. Took about $50 in materials from ace hardware, a welder, a grinder and exactly one six pack of angry orchard.
This is my first post, btw.
