Just picked one up and was thinking of adding it next to the spare, to the left of it. I was wondering if anyone has done this using a bracket that would use the spare tires mounting points? I am just wondering if it will be strong enough? Any insight or ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I wouldn't if I were you. The tailgate supports the weight of a standard spare tyre, but isn't really strong enough to take the weight of a full jerrycan.

X2 don't do it. My tailgate shows the scars of an oversized wheel.

The wheel alone made me upgrade the bumper and add a independent tire and can holder(s).

You can check on the hitch mounts. Think it was either here or on LOST. Another option is tossing it on the roof if it is a nonleaking can. Might be another option out there but I am drawing a blank right now.

See, I knew that would come back in a discussion of the weight capacity of the spare/tailgate! :D
