I'm looking into upgrading the brakes for towing. I want to go to bigger discs/calipers in the front and swap the drums in the back to discs (if it's possible without crazy modding). What is the max size I can put on the front without having to worry about wheel contact or doing any modifications? And, how would I go about swapping out the back? Any info/advice would be great!

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
Your out of luck for going any bigger in the front without having stuff custom made or doing a SFA swap. You can swap to rear discs, that's easy(unless you have ABS) besides swapping the parking brake cables.

Just call Van at Vanco and he can custom make a hrydroboost system for you and double/triple your OEM brakes stopping power, will not be cheap though.

Okay, I was mistaken, my Libby has discs on all 4 corners, not just in the front. What are my best options for increasing my breaking power? I'm considering drilled and slotted rotors on all 4 corners. Although, I've heard this will actually lengthen stopping distances? Any advice would be great! I want to upgrade my brakes for towing, it's easy enough to get the trailer moving, but I want to be sure I can get it stopped, safely.

Drilled rotors do nothing but crack and disapate heat less then a solid faced rotors.Slotted rotors can help but not really needed.

The best OEM style brakes I have found for the KJ have been Napa's Adaptive one pads matched with there premium rotors for all 4 corners. After that your talking really big amounts of $$$ and fabbing to get any better then that.

Good brake pads all around is about it without going like Troy suggested with Vanco

I used the KJ to flat tow my TJ a few times over a few hundred
miles each time
My TJ weighs close to 4000# and under flat tow has no brakes
I had no problems stopping it
If you are towing a trailer it could be equipped to have brakes
For less money then up grading the KJ brakes

From the stock brakes to Napa is a very good choice & will decrease stopping distance.
Me like the hand brake now too!

Those ultra premium rotors are different than the ones that I saw on the napa website. Is there a difference from Canada Napa?

The pic above was for a rear set. Some may have the center hub painted.
Not really sure on other differences though.
One thing is for sure, when the front is due, it will be Napa Premium all the way!

The guy told me the difference from the premium and ultra premium was nothing except price. Mine didn't come with the slots though! Have they gotten rusty at all or do they still look like they do in the picture?

They still look new, but you will get some surface rust on the rotor if Jeep sits for 2 days in rain without moving, like any rotor will.
Next year I may replace the front with the Napa Premium and Adaptive One Pads. I will paint the hat on the next set of Rotors though as it protects from rust and can add color in the wheel center area.

I have the adaptive one pads and not sure what grade of napa rotors and still feel great after about 25k miles or so. Hate the rear drums but will be doing napa shoes and new drums soon. Adjust about every oil change even with new hardware installed and still feel like crap in the back.
If you want to improve braking performance while towing, put electric brakes on the trailer and a good controller. My Kj feels better braking with a 3k lb pop up behind it than it does empty. Did I mention I hate the rear drums on my '02?
