Just saw the article on this and wondering what I should do...

I have an 06 KJ. I currently live in Georgia (probably not a state covered by the recall since we don't get much snow down here), but I purchased the vehicle in New York and drove it up there in the snow & salt for the first 3 years.

I've been told by a Jeep mechanic a few years ago when I needed to have a cat replaced under warranty that the bottom of my Jeep is pretty rusted, leading me to believe that the control arm could become compromised in the future.

Does anyone know who I should contact at Chrysler about this or which states are covered by the recall? I haven't seen any notices come through the mail but I think it might pay to be proactive on this.

Thanks!

I think it would be a wise decision to be proactive on this. I own a 2006 Renegade that was originally from Michagan. I think I will call the dealer and find out about bringing it in for service.

I found out if you call a dealership and give them the VIN, they will tell you if it's part of the recall

If you don't mind my asking, how long did it take to get it done? Did you have to make an appointment in advance for them to get the part? (Gee, you think I've been bitten by the dealer on this before? :) )

You're going to have to call the Stealership and make an appointment. Even though it's a recall, it's still maintenence.
When I had mine done, I dropped it off and 0745 and recieved a phone call at 0900 telling me to pick it up. Once I was there, I did a quick look to make sure everything was done properly and left.

Had mine done yesterday. Had appt at 8 am and was done at 9. You can also check for open recalls for your Jeep by going to Jeep.com to the owners section and look for tab called recalls and type in your Vin number.

Had mine done too...

Now there is a pop/squeak sound originating from the rear at low speeds/turning. Dealership re-visited... Reported fix is: After time the new work will "wear-in" and the sound will stop. I'm skeptical. :hmm: Anyone else experience the same? (Aeh)

I just out found the hard way what happens when the control arm breaks while driving. Driver rear wheel kicked & back passenger side kicked forward which locked the wheels up, driveshaft pulled out, did a 180 while driving 35mph on a wet road. After a tow to the dealer, they're replacing all the damaged parts caused by the mishap. Still working on reimbursement for the tow.

Moral of the story: Get it swapped before this happens. Luckily I wasnt on the highway because that could have been ugly.

^ holy cow!

Mine's at the stealer now for the recall. Couldn't do it today because they couldn't log in to Chrysler Connect for the authorization, but should be done tomorrow. I'm glad I'm getting it done before that happens!

And I'm glad you're okay.

Isn't it pretty apparent from a visual inspection if it's about to happen? I've seen TJs and YJs with MUCH more rust on the underbody and frame than any KJ I've ever seen.

It is pretty apparent if you're looking for it. I guess I never really examined my control arms before though.

Got it back from the dealer yesterday. The u-joints were damaged when the driveshaft pulled out so they replaced those too. Now, for some reason it feels like my rear suspension is bucking around while I drive.

Anybody have thoughts on what could have gone out of whack to cause that?

Bolts on the arms not being torqued down all the way? Check on top of the arms. I think that's where the sway bar connects to them.

Got mine back from the dealer. It's driving just as good as it did when I dropped it off, thankfully.
