Would a Dana 30 be worth using?

Still can not see how you think D30 parts are any more available then a D44(not a TJ/JK 44).Considering there was 3 automakers using interchangeable parts for the most part for over 40 years.Sure the D30 has no shortage of parts available but by no means more or easier then a older D44,not to mention cost more then a D44.

Simple
It has been ,what?, 25 or so yeas that every auto maker
has been putting IFS in there full size trucks
except ford with TTB or 3/4 ton
The last TJ Dana 30 rolled out
Auto parts stores are more likely to have parts
for something 5 years old then 25
Same rule when looking in junk yards
I am not just talking bearings and shafts
I am talking TRE's and the like
Break parts ,common stuff

Forgeting that the TTB uses the same stub shaft, bearings, rotors, and pads as a HP44.If you did a high steer/disc brake conversion then you can use Chevy pads/calipers that went all the way to almost 2000.For bearings heck we even stock at work the correct bearings(Chevy small spindle) that my HP44 uses,we have the grease seals also but don't stock any D30 bearings.

Then not to mention tie rod ends and ball joints easier or as easy to get HP44 stuff as D30 stuff. Then again besides balljoints I run 3/4ton K5 and D20 tie rods ends which are more widely available then D30 stuff.

No one will have a problem getting anything. This is the age of connectivity. I could get new ball joints at my door before i left for work tomorrow morning. Or the 4 wheel parts that's 10 mins south on 465. Or the Napa auto parts 10 mins north on 69. The list goes on

Takes a whole day to get ball joints for your Jeep? Man It's a 2min drive to Napa for me and they have like 20(10 uppers and 10 lowers) in stock at this very moment for my Jeep.

Quite frankly I don't know if SAS'ing a Liberty is worth the time or money.
By the time you get all the quality parts together I could more than likely build another 4X4 and get a better finished result!
Other than being "unique" with a Liberty, what's the benifit?

There is none. The kj sfa won't do anything an xj, tj, jk, yj, zj, or wj wouldn't do

That's what I'm thinking as well Matt.
Quite frankly I think I've taken our KJ as far as I can.
The only thing left would be to SFA it.
Sure, I could stuff some 265's under it...
But really I don't think it's worth the money!
Hell, I've had cars I could fit larger tires under!
Without a lift!
Time for a real 4X4!

Don't get me wrong here, a modded KJ is very capable off road.
But it also takes a beating on it's components.
Especially the inherently weak CV joints.
I'm sure that a solid axle Dana 30 is stronger than the IFS setup that Chrysler opted for.

Like I said, time for a stronger Rig for off road beatings.

Yup, time to SFA our Rig.
On the hunt for an HP 44 for the front to start.
If using Ford disc brakes look for a '76/'77 F100/F150 front HP44,if wanting to go with Chevy knuckles(or Crane) so you can use high steer go with a '73-'75 F100/F150 HP44.It will have drum brakes but who cares as it's all getting thrown out and replaced anyways. No other years are good Hp44's for swapping unless you want the 8 lug version which then you want a '78/'79 F250 HP44 which is 2" wider then the 1/2 ton versions.

old thread but just wondering what your wms is in the front already? and the rear?

and if your serious on polishing your **** an making your ride, ride like a ************* (compared to how it rides now) then let me know... i actually know quite a bit about them now a days (D44).

dont bother with a D30 cause you can do all kinds of upgrades to that axle but in the end they are so ******..
