Installed my 2 meter amateur (ham) transceiver in the KJ. Mounted it as many have on the passenger side of the console. Not too many mounting options in the KJ unless you have a rig with a remote head.

Ran 10 ga wire from the rig directly to the battery. Left the fuse in the Yaesu harness on the back of the radio and added a fuse at the battery too (I know, redundant). Also fused the negative lead; in the unlikely event that the battery loses it's negative ground to the Jeep, I don't want it seeking a ground path through my radio. Wiring is ran under the dash and through the console and under the passenger seat. I plan at some point to buy a dual-bander with a remote head and mount the xcvr under the seat, so I ran the wiring with that in mind. Next project is to eliminate the dual cig power adapter and hide the wiring going to the GPS and XM receiver.

Used an Opek mount purchased from Triad Electronic Supply for my Comet SBB-7 antenna. The Opek mount is much less expensive than a similar Diamond mount I've used in the past and so far seems just as durable. I have the antenna mounted on the right rear passenger door.

Old post but interesting. Recently passed the tech test here, so will be looking to add a mobile to my KJ. How has the setup worked so far?

Pulled the trigger on a ft2900 here finally. I ran the power from the battery, thru the firewall, down to the center console. Having problems figuring out where to mount it. It will cramp the wife to mount it on the passenger side of the console. Thought about finding a way to mount it on the driverside.

I can't believe you are able to put anything inside the cabin. There is so little room.

It's easy!!:smokin:

I have a 7800 Yaesu in mine. The 'brain' is under the passenger's seat and the head is mounted to the open ashtray with a little aluminium and double sided tape. Been there for 3 years with no problems at all. :party52:

Have fun!

Oliver
