Just below the speedo in Nancy ( '04 Renegade KJ ), there is a small label that says 'TYPE 35' in orange letters. When the sun hits this part of the dash, it lights up causing me to think it's an idiot light of some kind. Gets me every time.

And

There are two gas stations in town where I live, one is a popular name brand and the other is basically brand - X. Brand X is typically about ten cents per gallon cheaper than the other one, so I usually fill up there.

The other day, the name brand dropped their price to below brand X so I filled up there instead. It may be just in my head, but it feels like Nancy now has a noticeable increase in power and smoothness. I probably won't notice an increase in MPG because I'm enjoying the perceived HP boost too much. I'll have to run some of my other cars down there to see if I experience the same thing.

Is it just me or have you noticed differences in performance from gasoline brand to brand?

I don't notice performance differences but I do notice MPG differences. I usually get the best MPG when I fill up at the Meijer gas station close to my house. I usually get bad or the worst mileage from Marathon. All the others file in between the two.

The amount of Ethanol in your gas can vary widely depending on the source. Ethanol is subsidized by the government so fuels with a higher percent concentration are typically cheaper than real gasoline.

If your vehicle is not setup for Ethanol a higher Ethanol content can mean lower performance and lower fuel mileage.

Flex Fuel Vehicle's will actually improve performance with E10 over pure gasoline. Fuel mileage is still lower than pure gasoline.

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
I never buy the cheapest gas I can find,I like gas not water/gas mix.If there is a group of 2-3 gas stations together I alsways go with the mid-range priced one or the one that is a Cenex(if it happens to be there).

Slightly North of the 49° th. Parallel... In HongC
We only fill up with Shell Premium or Chevron Premium
when when there are no Shell stations around.
All other gas seems to just drain through the tank and
the Heep runs rough and sluggish.
But then again, we also drive 30 miles to buy our fuel
because it saves us on average 0.10 to 0.13 cents per
liter. That translates to $ 6.70 to $ 8.71+ savings per
fill up!
I know that doesn't sound like allot, but with four fill ups
per month, that's $ 26.80 to $ 34.84 savings!
That's money we get to spend on our Rig!

As far as the Type 34 at the bottom of the speedo...
That refers to the model number of the speedo.

let me tell y'all a story about name brand gas and brand x gas. I briefly worked for a company that would sell used gas to the no name gas stations. My job was to drive a 9000 gallon gas tanker to north east junkyards, (Bangor to Buffalo, to Baltimore was my area. There are 8 other drivers that cover the rest of the United States) and I would pump out the gas holding tanks from the cars that were dismantled, and drop it at no name mom and pop gas stations to be sold to the public as 87 octane. I was taken back at first when I was told about the job description, but needed a job and went with it. Along the way, at every gas station I would drop at, I would hear stories about blown engines the company had to pay for. Then one day I was making a drop in Waterbury CT when the department of consumer protections stopped me from making my drop. Apparently they have been looking for this company due to about a dozen blown engines, but didn't know where they were. The company is based out of California, my boss lived in Florida, and I parked my truck at a truck stop in Connecticut. So after a lot of back and forth on the phone with my boss and the dept of consumer protection, he had to fly up to CT and go through a battery of questions and tests. They shut down the gas station I dropped at until they tested the gas. Turns out the gas in the gas station tanks and on my truck was 85 octane and had a ton of water in it. So they tagged my meter, and stopped the company from doing business in CT and from that day on I had to meet the Florida driver in Baltimore to do truck to truck transfer so he could drop the crap gas in the Carolinas. I soon quit that job for the above mentions reasons and a huge list of other reasons. So just warning you guys who love their jeeps as much as I do. Name brand gas stations are required by contract to buy gas from the rack. Un-branded gas stations can get gas from anywhere they can to save money. I wouldn't put that crap gas in my lawn mower. Buy gas from a name brand station. Ill name names if anybody wants to know more or if I'm allowed. I don't want to get in trouble on this forum. I love this forum.

a few years ago when I worked at a NAPA store, the store was connected to a Texaco (which is now a Shell) The owner of the store also owned another Texaco, a Citgo, an Exxon and 2 no-name stations. I found out while working there that all of those gas stations (and quite a few others in the area no-matter which brand) all got gasoline from the same truck and the same company. Sometimes the bill-of lading would say Exxon, sometimes it would say something else. The same company still supplies the oil for the Shells, and the 'Duck-Thrus' in the area and they get the fuel out of the same truck.

Yea, that's some crazy **** going on there in CT. Anyway, my friend runs a few of those no-name brand places AND a marathon. All get the same gas from the same truck. Around here we're pretty safe I think as opposed to those other places. And hopefully that company in CT or wherever isn't around anymore because basically they are fraudulent. Most of the stores are more interested in the convenience store items than the gas because they really don't make much money selling gas. I really would think it would be more of an expense and hassle to seek out the cheaper junk gas rather than use the same truck everyone else does.

But do the trucks carry both name brand gas and the cheaper stuff, or is it all the same gas?

I always thought it was all the same just from stories that I heard.
