Wow I was gone for 3 hours and the last oil filter thread got closed and wanted to ask if anyone can explain if attaching an oil filter magnetic sleeve etc would be beneficial or what product to recommend.
I found this one made for the Liberty from Filter mag http://shopfiltermag.com/cart/ymm.php?year=2004&make=JEEP&model=LIBERTY+ALL+ALL
it is like $45 plus shipping, cheaper alternatives? is this something good to consider for the kJ? Anyone using one and cut a old filter apart to see particles?

My experience: Most of my engines have magnets on the drain plugs. While this won't catch EVERYTHING it is an indicator. I always check them and only my 2 cycle motorcycle ever has any. Normal for it since it plug is actually for gearbox including clutch.
My thoughts: There are many different metals in the engine and the magnet would only catch iron. While I would never say a magnet is of no use I, personally, don't believe they will help. I BELIEVE if there is that much iron wear the engine is near failure ....

I would assume similar to the motorcycle, the KJ's oil pick up tube has a fine screen on it.
In the photo below these are the particles trapped in the bike's pan after 3000km rebuild, that did not make it through the screen, or drain out the plug.

I would think that both iron and steel particles would be trapped by an oil filter magnet, and really this might be a good idea. Here is a photo from Filter mag showing the outline from a cut open used oil filter and the trapped particles.

Might just order few of these.

The Bike had new rings installed and cross hatched, who knows? My thought is that through the rebuild process stuff was not cleaned the best, and the pan shows the leftovers. Glad I pulled the pan though. The bile still runs strong, 6 years later.
If you look closely at the pan you can see where the drain plug is raised. This pan allows for the collection of the particles, but does not get the stuff out, based on this design. Going to pull the pan again in spring next year, and rebuild the clutch as well.
jcbll95: thanks for link, I am thinking that a good magnet on oil filters helps to prolong engine lives, by trapping stuff.
