well, i located a vendor that stocks the transgo shift kit for my 06. he said he had the part and closes at 5. i said ill be there around 4 to get the kit so i can install it tomorrow. i drove 2 hours one way and actually got there on time. he was closed!!! i tried his cell to ask where he was or if i was in the wrong place. GPS may have been off a bit i assumed? he wouldnt answer his phone at all even after 3 calls. wow im pissed.

so as i figured i should have done anyway, who here knows of a trusted web site to just order the kit from? tried transgos number on their site and they say i must go through a distributor which is stupid.

So what will this actually do for the trans? I know what a shift kit is/does I guess. I'm just wondering how much benefit this would actually be?

from what ive read it makes the shifts tighter. dont know if it helps with the lag from 2nd to 3rd or not. i hope so. cant hurt to try it. ill make a vid for the install when i do it and do a rpm/shift comparison in it on the same flat stretch of road before and after.

If you read the specs on the one for the Liberty, it is labeled as an UPGRADE, that contains case, and valve body parts. For them to be any good, they need to be metal parts, and not plastic. This says that it; Prevents Common Limp Causes (prove it), Upgrades early designs to later specs, Fixes Limp, Special ring/seal upgrades. The model years say 88 and up, and 42RLE well, to a certain point, because these Liberty are not the same transmissions, AGAIN, anymore.

The transmission in the liberty is said to be a redesign by Mercedes, and will not require this kit, or upgraded parts. It is not surprising they lied to you...

The best thing you can do for the transmission is KEEP IT COOL. If you can ad another cooler, do it. If you have a RAD that has the trans lines through it, add an AUX cooler. If you don't have the RAD with the trans lines through it, and don't mind the work? Change the rad out for one that has TRANS hookups, then use the existing cooler as an AUX cooler.

The A604 kits were introduced by TransGo as well, with new check bearings, and so on. Well, the TCM eventually adapted to the kit, and it was back to normal shifting. With ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED shifting, it's hard to alter the pressures and shift solenoid speeds; because the TCM can adjust.

The SOLENIODS are pulsed, that's why that sound ratchety, for smooth easy shifts. If it's hard and solid shifts you want, the pulse to the Soleniods must be changes to a solid voltage hit, which can be done with an adapter. It ended up blowing the clutch packs anyway, because of the simultaneous releasing and applying a clutch at the same time...

Leave the transmission alone, unless you want to COOL it, otherwise, nothing is really going to make it solid or more reliable than the redesign already has.

The 45RFE has three planetary gear-sets? The 42RLE has two? I read, that It also has 3 multiple disc input clutches, 3 multiple disc holding clutches, and a dual internal filter setup; (one primary filter for transmission sump, one for the fluid cooler return system). In the 45RFE applications four gears are utilized, with a different (1.50:1 rather than 1.67:1) second gear to increase versatility when downshifting.

Will the transmission plop in without any hardware or computer?

pretty good argument. unless anyone disagrees or has more to add, i will probably not even fool with the shift kit.

Flair, I've heard the Jet Chips improve the shifting dramatically as well. I'm considering getting the Jet I chip because it doesn't require the premium gas. I'll research it more, but it might be a better way than getting into your transmission.

A chip is not like a kit. The Jet Chips are program, that overrides the TCM values, with SET values in the chip. It can't re-learn, because the JET chip program is constant. So, no matter what the TCM says, the Jet Chip overrides that and the trans performs it.

Many people say the shift KITS just make it perform like it should have from the factory, with better parts.

Skip the stage I chip,go with the stage II chip, you will loose HP with the stage I.I will also be adding the Transgo shift kit soon but not adding the resister that the chip is basically doing the same thing.Adding the whole shift kit requires removal and disassembly of the transmission(45RFE/545RFE).
