That's not good. The bearing caps that holds the cam to the head must have come loose or snapped, and the cam jumped out of it's resting place. Be sure to show pics of the carnage once the valve cover is removed.

If the cam let loose on it's own and jumped up, the valves would have closed, so I wouldn't foresee piston/valve collision issues. Now if it was a collision that pushed the valve up against it's will in the first place, you may be looking at worse damage internally. Other damage may have been done to the timing chain/sprocket assemblies from the cam tracking cattywompus, but while the engine is apart replacing the head, you're going to want to replace those items anyway. Wouldn't want to suppose beyond that point without taking things apart.

Gruesome. confused2.gif

I truly hope it ends up being one of those "looks worse than it actually is" deals. Hang in there!

That's a new one! Sad for the OP but have to admit I got a chuckle out of cattywompus. That'll drive a spellchecker nuts. :roflbow:

Shelly will guarantee her head work and you won't even remember you had a problem.

In all seriousness, Look forward to hear an update...I hope it is not too bad in there.
Edit: Only 76 k miles that seems very low to have this sort of problem..strange.

There was a wrench in that picture? I guess I better look at it again.

Yeah, something was starving the oil supply to the head, those bearings had a serious melt down. The rest of how it looks is pretty much what I was imagining.
