trying to figure out what this is! my transfer case is leaking oil out of here and wanted to make sure i knew what i was dealing with before i removed it. thanks!

My W.A.G. would be the sender for transfer case position (2wd, 4wd-hi, 4-lo, etc.)

The arrow is pointing at the TC shifter detent pin, spring, o-ring and plug.
The TC position sensor is at the top.

is it going to change anything if i remove it to re-seal it?

Should not hurt/change anything just to replace the o-ring.
Just don't move the tc shift lever.
