I need to replace the engine in a 2003 Jeep Liberty 2wd.

I have the engine from a 03 Liberty 4wd and I was wondering if I need to do any modifications to this engine when bolting it up to the transmission.

If anyone knows any info about this, that would be very helpful. Thanks.

Should be a direct swap . Most 2wd vs 4wd vehicles have different oil pans . Thats usually the only difference with every manufacturer.

Engines should be the same if both have the 42RLE or 45RFE trans, 03 was a transition year. 2wd/4wd doesn't change anything.

The pans should be the same too. Car Parts. Com shows 3.7 liberty 2002-03 on the pan. Later years may work but you have to see where the drain plug is and if it's in the way of anything.

Far as the 3.7 it's the same engine 2wd and 4wd .
Oh, to pull the engine you'll need to get the intake off to connect the chains, or I guess wrap the chain around the exhaust manifolds like the junkyard I got our motor from. They broke one of the valve covers doing this but save half an hour unbolting the intake :(
