wife went out to work this morning and slid into a telephone pole head first. her 02 lib might be totaled.

she climbed the snow covered road we live on with no prob in 4 low then on the way down the other side the damn thing popped out of 4 low and she went sliding into the pole.

she is ok thank god, but the jeep has both right inner/outer fender damage, hood 45 degreed, bumper gone, and radiator and lines up front smashed. the engine itself isnt damaged as far as i can tell. she hit the pole doing 5-7 mph she guesses. i hope they fix it and dont total it. ive just changed all fluids and filters and we have new tires also.

im so pissed about the popping out of gear thing. even my 06 does it for no reason after riding for 30 minutes without any problem, and yes we do know how to engage it right.

also am finding out how much allstate is crooked. they say they cover weather related accidents and will get you a rental, but yet snow/ice isnt covered, but yet if your car is broken into, a rental is supplied.

what a day!

At least she is OK.

As bad as wrecking the KJ is, they do handle impacts very well. The KJ is a very safe vehicle.

Only thing I can think of is using 4 Lo for engine braking.

you got it. using to engine brake on a 25% grade in a curve, when it popped out she had to hit the brakes and it lost all traction on the ice before she could pull it back in 4. she said about 1 1/2 seconds is all it took from the pop out till the impact.
