Hi All,
Just another quick question for you - I was travelling down the motorway last night (dont spend a lot of time on motorways if i can help it) and was doing about 80 mph (To keep up with the traffic flow of course as the limit is 70 over here) and everything was fine, then the traffic flow got a little faster and at about 85 there was a loud "drumming" vibration started which could be heard in the cabin and also felt as quite a severe vibration on the gear lever (Manual gearbox) It continued till about 90 and then I backed off as I realised I couldn't "drive through it. Anybody else had this? New tyres were fitted a couple of years ago so i am thinking it is just the rear wheels need balancing again. Big wheels and lots of rubber will make a lot of vibration if they are out of balance wont they! Fronts out of balance make the steering wheel shake and rears make the whole vehicle shake! The only thing that concerns me is that I had the rear prop shaft off a few weeks ago to lube the splines trying to get rid of a rattle and I am thinking I might have done something wrong. I am pretty sure I must have been doing 85 since but cant remember. I marked the flanges as I took the prop off and pretty sure I got it back in the same place but even if I hadn't it would vibrate before 80 anyway wouldn't it? I value all your comments, Cheers, Steve
