does it hook up in place of the cd changer, or in line with it?

If that's the same one I have (looks like it) it hooks up where your cd changer would go and runs through the stock stereo. It has a few tiny perks, none enough to complain about, I'm very happy with mine. I have an old iPod that lives in the jeep and I leave it plugged in all the time.

It plugs into the CD changer port so you would lose the changer if installed.
