****** leaking somewhere (5-speed)

My ****** is leaking fluid from somewhere but i can't seem to find it. The ****** itself is dry, yet the frame on the left side of the ****** (drivers side) is wet from the top down and the fabric that lines the frame is soaked. I thought it could be where the shifter goes in but i reached up underneath it and i couldn't feel anything wet. the wet spot is lined up with the center of the ****** as opposed to the front or back. Any thoughts? U can sometimes smell it from inside the jeep
