Just got a '02 Libby Sport which has a trailer hitch, but I'm not finding a wiring connector. I've looked all under the rear end and I've pulled the right rear tailight housing - no luck. I've not yet figured out how to pop off the panels inside the Jeep, and before I break something, I thought I'd ask.

All I want to do is hook up a lighted trailer hitch cover which lights up when the brakes are applied. If I've got to dismantle the inside panels of my Libby to do this, I might just go ahead and install a wiring harness for a trailer - 4 conductor ... I'll never need brake control.

Where do I start?

Use the search.

Go to Etrailer.com and get the 42475 that plugs inline with the rear end harnes on the passenger side rear.

Cheap ones catch things on fire. If you want the actual factory harness look it up on a mopar site. From the sounds of it, you just need a simple 4 wire connector and the one from Etrailer.com should do ya good. I on the other hand wanted to do it right and got the 7 pin harness from mopar and it goes all the way from the rear right side up and in front of the radio. Not fun at all, but it's the most complete job you can do.
If you want to start taking out interior panels in the back, start with the one on top of the door jam with the cutouts for the defrost wires. Just pull it off and from there on it should be pretty self explanatory. They all just have tabs that hold them on and they aren't too difficult to remove. I recommend taking note as to how the door seals conform to the panel before you yank them off. It will make for a better fit when you go to put them back on.

yes etrailer and just get the flat 4 with connections to the tail lights
easy to install and works great
on 05 and later you have to run the ones that hook clear up through
but earlier models you don't.
I have pulled trailers with mine between Toledo and Boston, Toledo and Orlando and all over Ohio several times and have never had a problem in over 6 years with the etrailer one
Plug and play....

i have an 06... this is what i had to do:
i bought the kit from orielly's auto parts, and the kit for the 7way, used the 4x4 club's discount... total was less than $100...
pull the passenger side rear cargo area wall away from the wall (remove weather strip, floor sill plate, and the cargo hook if so equipped (if not equipped you have the little stoarage area with a net)). connector is in there... i plugged kit tight into it. drill a small hole in the metal wall to use a screw to give yourself a nice solid ground for the kit and the converter (needs a converter to work out the stop/turn signal issue if you don't have the evic)
next, lift up the carpet in that area and you will see a rubber plug there. i had to push mine up from below. i cut a slit in the center of the plug and fed my wiring harness through it, then snapped the plug back in... hope that helps, sorry no pics, was in a hurry when i did it
