I was browsing craigslist and found a 2003 KJ with 194k 3.7 auto 4WD for $900 at one of those buy here finance here places. It was just listed an hour ago and only 10 mins away so I went to take a look at it at a possible winter Jeep for my other half.
I am usually leary of these kind of places but the guy was very honest about the Jeep, they just got it in as a trade and haven't done a thing to it, and actually showed me things that were wrong with it.
It starts right up but has a CEL for P0118 & P01296.
Under the hood it has some strange wiring that has been cut to the electric fan, looks like they ran it to a switch then just cut their crappy wiring job, as well some spliced wiring to the alternator and MAP sensor (I think)
Also the 4WD makes a pretty good clunking noise when engaged, possibly due to a CV Joint up front that the boot is all torn up or the front driveshaft that has a good amount of play...
Body wise, it has some rust but nothing unusual for north east ohio.
I am just trying to get some opinions if I should pull the trigger on this, with the 4WD noise and wiring problems under the hood which are kinda scaring me off.. Usually though its hard to find a running driving Jeep for $900, am an use to seeing the ones needing a motor for $1500..
