Well, I'm a newbie here and I have looked at many of the reviews other members have posted; good and bad posties on the KJ. I just bought my KJ with 16,340 km on the dial and decided this weekend, to drive on a nice stretch of hiway to test the Liberty. Upon coming to a complete stop on the hill, I noticed the car would not move upon acceleration. It was like the transmission was stuck yet it was in Drive. Reluctantly, I forced it on the side of the road and turned off the ignition. I walked around all 4 tires and checked the rotors for smell or heat...nothing. Left front caliper was warmer than all the others though but not RED HOT or close to it.
I jumped back in and started the car again and made my way down the street, nothing else as if nothing happened. My own conclusion (although I may be wrong) is the caliper seizing for the moment but it did release upon restarting.
I did not drive it ******* the highway, just a few long curves and not much braking either. I'm concerned that If I drive it for 2 or 3 hours, will the brakes seize? I really don't want to be stuck somewhere far from civilization. I have lots of warranty left, yet not sure if I were to have it serviced, which caliper to fix if any?
Any suggestions? I thought, maybe if I cleaned all the pistons and sliders on each caliper, and bleed the braking system, that it may help.

I'd start with a good round of brake cleaner, folowed by lubing the sliders/pistons just as you suggest. Also, check the rotors and pads for excessive or uneven wear.

But on the other hand, since you still have warranty left, it may be better to take it to the stealership, explain the problem, and start a paper trail if you have future problems. (I ALWAYS keep invoices from stealerships)

Either way, let us know how it goes! \:D/

Sounds like the ****** got stuck in a high gear and reset after you restarted the vehicle. (Assuming yours is an automatic)

The only calipers ive ever heard of locking up is the back calipers. Thats just ppl on here though. I would drive it some more, and if it happens again, keep going alittle to see what it is, it may not be the brakes, it could be ur ******, but if its ur brakes then they will heat up and u will be able to see which brake it is. Dont do it long though, lol this may be bad advice. :-k

I was climbing a steep hill just before coming to a complete stop. I was already in (D)rive but upon pressing the accelerator, the car just groaned and didn't want to move forward. I remember switching to reverse and didn't sound like the transmission shifted so then I just forced it forward around a bend to check on it. Thank goodness I wasn't stuck on a freeway, just on the side street. Regardless whether it's transmission failure or caliper malfunction, at 16,000 kms on the dial, that doesn't seem all the reliable now unless there's a manu defect.

lol, the libby is a very reliable vehicle. There are a few here and there that will break but thats normal. I sure that its nothing that big and can be fixed at the dealer.

That's very reassuring to hear. [-o< I agree, all cars have something annoying here and there but for a car to not move forward tells me there may be major problems down the line. No one likes to be in this kind of predicament, especially if your stuck far from home. I love my Jeep!
