Today was dry & a good painting day. The rear driver's side backing plate was bad.
The small rust spot once sanded today, became much larger.

The rear springs both sides, were painted up a bit as well.
This time I used Tremclad Professional spray. One can should do all the touch ups.

Pushbar and all front suspension is in need of touch ups this year, more work ahead!

I need to touch up my front LCAs and the rock rails. Other than that, mine's pretty good. My backing plates are clean, speaking of those. I think my oil leak up front keeps the oil pan and subframe rust free. :D

Wow that Tremclad pro spray dried very hard & smooth.
Midnight tonight gave it some brush on paint nice & thick.
Color is off a bit it should dry black.
Will give 1 more bush coat, a quick sanding then a final top spray coat as final.
Hopefully it will last a few years after all this paint work ahead.
I certainly don't want to be removing the axles to replace the backing plates!

Looks like the Jeep is sticking around. The list is starting again...

1) Trans replacement
2) Front Calipers and brakes
3) Driveshaft U joints
4) PCV piping (cracked)
5) Fluids - I don't keep tabs on mileage anymore. I don't drive much.
6) Plugs
7) Maybe injectors

My Napa one shit the bed. It's leaking after a year and half...like 15000 miles later. Hopefully I can leave that till summer, well kind of have to.

I did. I have the Detroit in my Jeep. It's not leaking anymore. I also replaced the hoses and o rings. Unfortunately I STILL get bad whining in the cold. Must be the pump.

Not sure if it's normal, but my steering wheel has a bit of play in it. I'd say maybe an eighth of an inch back and forth before it gets tight. I'd imagine that's no fault of the rack.

We'll see how long it lasts. I'm hoping a good while.

The pump is probably done, once they whine they don't shut up.

Mine doesn't have any play in the steering at all...it's pretty tight. Just weepy. LOL

Inspection Rear Parking Brake

Finally got caliper off on lift. Really looks way better than I expected.
The backing plate is in good shape hardly any salt in or on there.
Used compressed air to blow dust away. Cleaned hat or drum w/ brake cleaner.
Hardware kit still looks great & once re-assembled set the spinners right.
Parking brake shoes are worn slightly, good for a few more years yet. :gr_grin:

How do dedicated parking brake shoes wear? They are only supposed to hold when stopped unless they aren't releasing fully. Are you drifting that thing again??? :happy175:

Yup I do practice winter maneuvers safely in large open parking lots, to test the KJ's traction capabilities, & all brake efficiencies!
It is good to know in 2&4 WD how the Jeep responds in slippery winter conditions, as we do have mountains here.
