I have another current thread "My Jeep is POSESSED" but I didn't think this is related.

When I come to a stop, my speedometer lags behind. It takes about 2 seconds AFTER I stop for it to creep down from about 8 mph to zero.

Weird?

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
That would be a bad speedo sensor(located on top of the rear diff) or most likely the wiring got frayed causing this. This could be your stalling problem also since the speedo signal is very important to the pCM to keep the engine running.

I had the same thing happen and had a broken wire in the connector to the sensor on the rear diff.

It seems like it must be problem that's just popped up, since I've had the Jeep for 6 years and just NOW noticing it. Otherwise you'd think I'd have caught it a LONG time ago. Maybe I'll try replacing it as well. The guy at Advance Auto seems OK with me returning parts I installed if they don't fix the problem. Pretty nice if you ask me!

Mine lags a bit but it's more like a 1/2 second, that has been about normal. It its 2 seconds then it's probably broke. Does it lag on acceleration too.

I don't believe so, but I think it'd be tougher to notice it if it was?

I remember when I had my 91 Taurus the Speedo used to be off in the really cold weather.

I'd would hit the gas and the speedo would shoot up to 55-60mph in about 5 seconds and I would really only be doing like 30. Then at a complete stop the speedo would be at 35mph and slowly falling. "oooooo what a fast car lol" :D

Diesel. Has it been extremely cold in Ohio?

To anyone else. Has there every been reports of KJ speedos being effected by cold weather?

Yep, this week has been BITTER cold in Ohio. The last couple days have seen -15 with the wind chill. However I think I noticed this a few weeks ago, when it was cold, but not crazy like now. Perhaps 30's is cold enough to have pushed it over the edge?

I'm jealous of your -15 wind chill, in Iowa our wind chill is currently between -30 to -50 (no joke). Still -15 is horrible.

For the taurus speedo shooting to 55-60, you weren't perhaps spinning the hell out of your tires, were ya? My ol' turbo thunderbird did that, not sure if the speedo sensor is in the ****** for the front-drive fords...

Nope. no tire spin. The roads were clear. It was like a +2 outside and windy. I remember it clearly b/c i noticed it when I was 3 blocks away from my house and I was driving past a school.

Pull the sensor out of the diff and check to make sure there isn't anything on it. If any RTV gets on it it will effect the signal as will any metal from the gears wearing over time.
