Speed sensor??

Hello guys. Got a weird problem. Sometimes the speedometer doesnt work and the parkingbrake light turns on and while i drive sometimes the speed turns to 120 and etc than to 0 again. Now i discovered its the p0500 code. The weird thing abt it is that when i start the car every morning the speedometer works normal,also sometimes when the car is parked with engine on the speedometer goes up and down. So i ve really no idea where the look. Always thought that when a sensor is dead it will be dead :s. Hope you can help. Thx

Sorry. Liberty 2003 3.7 with abs that didnt work since i got the car and i dont care abt it. More offroad than asphalt. The speed problem i ve since a week.

Check the wiring leading to the speed sensor that lives above your rear diff. It's a chafe point for some KJ's. If that's good, I'd try replacing that sensor next.

Even if the wiring looks good, it may be cracked or corroded inside. If you're going to do it, I'd replace the sensor, wiring to it, and reroute the wiring to prevent future problems. I bought some wire and the sensor got home and the entire job with re routing it took less than 45 minutes.
