Go with either Bilstein or OME shocks 927/948 springs and you'll be surprised at how much better the overall ride and handling is
You'll wished you had done it as soon as you bought the KJ

Depending on which shocks you use, will depend of how stiff the suspension is.
Our Frankenlifted Heep with Rancho shocks rides (IMO) like a sport truck and handles excellent on and off road.
Whereas LibertyTC's (Tim) OME / Bilstein shocks ride softer than ours, yet is
still firm.
Again, IMO ours drives nicer.

BTW: It is the need to add all of those aftermarket parts that is my primary beef with Chrysler. If they're going to build Jeeps and other off-road vehicles, why don't they do it well? What possible use could I have for AC and power windows in a Jeep? Why should I need to replace thousands of dollars of crappy parts just to turn it into a good 4x4?

Just like any other 4X4.
As far as A/C and power windows?
I'm glad our Heep has A/C!
We ride in comfort while wheeling and keep the thousands of mosquitoes and horse flies out of the cabin!
We don't get eaten alive that way!

Actually the OME setup for a KJ is the cheapest you will find. Try getting a nice lift for a TJ or CJ for that matter for under a grand. It is very simple too and maybe that is why. :shrug:

If you don't like power windows and AC stick with the CJ. As for me, when I'm driving home I like the AC. I also like doing the 1,2,3 when I get in my Jeep on a hot summer day. 1, driver window auto down, 2 passenger auto down ...3 sunroof. All the hot air escapes pretty fast.

I'm coming across as much more negative than I really am. I'll tone down my gripes and concentrate more on the positive aspects.

My CJ now spends most of her life out behind the barn with a couple of other decommissioned cars. For wheelin' she rides on the trailer behind some other vehicle, and only sees the dirt anymore. Sometimes she takes on the role of farm tractor when it comes time to pull a harrow or some other non-powered implement around the pasture.

For the KJ, I'll most likely wind up with the OME springs and I haven't figured out the shocks yet. There's a lot to read over in the 'lift kit' forum. I'll post unanswered questions there to keep this more general.

I just need a bit of cash recovery time, since I just bought "Nancy" a couple of weeks ago.

On the positive side, all of my complaining has brought my wife to the point where she said: "You really need to get that lift and new tires right away. You're just not going to be happy until you fix that thing up". - I think I'll keep her. ( The wife that is )

Speaking of my wife, I got home yesterday and found her BMW ( '98 740i "Frau Blucher" ) just covered in mud. When I asked about it, she said "I was on the way home and saw that there was still a big mud puddle left over from the recent rain. I didn't want to change cars, so I just aimed for the middle of it and punched it".

Maybe I can make her drive the KJ instead of the BMW.
