We purchased a new 06 Liberty Saturday a week ago. It has a manufacture date of 8/06 and had 22 miles on it. When I went to refuel it last week, I found the screws around the filler neck are rusty. My sister’s 05 Liberty screws are not rusty at all even after a year in a coastal environment. Is this something I need to worry about? What would cause the screws to rust so soon?
When we picked up the floor mats from the dealer last Thursday (they keep them in parts which was locked on Saturday) I checked most of the Libertys on their lot and only one other one had the rust on these screws and then only the top one.
I asked the salesman and he said it was just from rain that had collected behind the cover. He said he checked with his service manager and the three screws just retain the black plastic around the filler neck. He said he would order new ones.
Thanks in advance for the advice.
