I don't know much about the history of the Jeep Liberty and/or the Cherokee. I live in Canada and I bought a 2007 Jeep Liberty. The last weeks I have been in Greece traveling around and I keep seeing Jeep Cherokee's that look exactly like Jeep Liberty's. Is this just a marketing thing in different parts of the world, or was there a cross over in the name at some time.

Thanks

Yes, KJ's are sold as the Cherokee pretty much everywhere but North America

Main reason is that in several overseas markets Subaru sells a 'Liberty' sedan so Daimler-Chrysler went with the 'Cherokee' moniker in those markets. They probably also wanted to differentiate between the older-style Cherokees and the new model with IFS and other changes, but I don't think it would have made that much of a difference.
