Hi all,

I've had my jeep aligned about 4-6 months ago. The PS front tire was showing signs of feathering.

With my inspection of the jeep today, I've found that I still have the same passenger side outer edge wear on my new yoko AT-S. I can't tell weather it is feathering or cupping.

Questions:

1. Is/Are there part(s) wearing out that might cause this issue? What should I be checking?

2. Should the tires be rotated before I bring it in to have the alignment checked?

Thanks.

Did you rotate them when you had the alignment done?
If not they would continue to wear the same way
Also you can hit a pothole or something and knock it back out
How often do you rotate your tires and how?
You should leave the tires where they are so that the Tech can see the wear pattern. Helps sometimes n that he can see whats wrong

Tom:
Yes. I had the tires rotated after the first alignment.

The last rotation was about 4900 miles ago with a 5 tires rotation with a front cross rotation pattern. The discount tire tech did that pattern so sticking to it should be fine. I was planning to have the rotation every other oil change but it looks like I should rotate at every oil change.

Rotate the tires every 3000-4000 miles and you'll be fine. I bought my jeep new with 17 miles on it. At about 3500 miles in I noticed cupping on front passenger. I've had several alignments over years but still at 3000-4000 miles I had cupping. on my Second set of tires now and they do the same. So I rotate the tires once a year ( I only put on about 4k a year) to keep the tires on a normal wear pattern. Plus if go longer than 4000 with out a rotation my tires become loader on pavement with there tread.

My father's KJ does the same thing.

During the last alignment, nothing was mentioned to be worn.
Anything in the suspension that is worn out and could cause this problem?

I'll take a few pictures tomorrow and post them.

Thanks.

The guy that did the alignment Brian, did he give you a completed print out, with specs?
What has your psi been at in the front tires?

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
I've been pretty good with checking the tires' PSI weekly. 33 psi.

here's a photo of the last alignment results

Only 1 angle on that printout shows why your feathering tires, and it's not the very small front toe adjustment. The rear thrust angle is way out so your "dog tracking" going down the road feathering your tires.

tjkj:

What should it be set at?

The print out had -0.25 to 0.25 degrees as the specification and currently it is at 0.05 degrees.
I have an appointment tomorrow afternoon for the alignment.

Thanks for the help.
