I installed fog lights on my Liberty, and after reconecting the battery i tried to start it, and nothing.

Everything works in the ignition on position, when i turn the key to the start position i get no crank.

Ive checked all the fuses and relays for the starter and ignition system. Replaced the ignition switch and actuator.

Im simply stumped.

Side info: this is a 2004 Liberty, 3.7L manual 2wd

(For detail sake: i salvaged the foglights, wiring, and column controls from a wrecked 04, after install they work as intended. When the Liberty wouldnt start, i swaped back to my original equipment and still have the same problem.)

Update: a rolling start works, the KJ does start and run from a push start.

I jumped the starter relay with a paperclip, it cranks, but wont start, because i cant jump the relay, and depress the clutch at the same time.

If you had my kind of bad luck, the ignition switch actuator broke at the same time you did that work

The clutch interlock switch is mounted on the shaft of the clutch pedal and there is a relay in the relay box under the hood that can be jumpered....see the Wiring diagram for the circuitry.

However I doubt your problem is the clutch interlock switch as that stops it from turning over at all whereas this Jeep does turn over when the starter relay is jumpered but I may be wrong here.

Do you have the key in the ignition slot and turned ON when jumpering the starter relay?

The cluster should show a "key" icon on early KJs or a red LED on later KJs for the SKIS anti theft system if fitted. This icon/LED should light up when ignition is turned ON and should go out after a few seconds if SKIS is OK....if it flashes at you or stays ON then you have a SKIS problem.

Have a look at the Wiring Diagrams here for how to override the clutch interlock. The 2004 Service Manuals are not listed but the 2003 or 2005 manuals should be close enough...the Wiring Diagrams are in section 8W.

My Export 2002 CRD manual has the clutch interlock switch but I have a 4X4 KJ as apposed to your 2 Wheel drive...with the 4X4 box I can start it without depressing the clutch in 4X4 Low Range....lets me start the Jeep in gear if stalled on a steep incline!

There have been some problems with replacement Actuator Pin assemblies where the new ones fit into place slightly out a few degrees in rotation so that at full rotating of the ignition key to Start...the ignition switch does not rotate enough. You can test this by gaining access to the ignition switch itself and with the key in its normal slot to enable SKIS...depress the clutch and rotate the ignition switch with a small screwdriver.

If this works then you need to elongate the actuator pin assembly mounting slot so that you can advance or ****** the angular position of the switch slightly.

I had a problem with my manual 2002 CRD whereby with ignition ON...as soon as I depressed the clutch the engine would turn over before I could turn the key to Start.
So I had to elongate the mounting slot!
