I've recently purchased a 2005 Jeep Liberty with command trac drive. I've tried to shift to 4 wheel drive while in motion. I find that it is very difficult. You must pull the lever extreamly hard and it does not engage 4 wheel drive. Shuld the lever be that hard to pull????

are we talking about 4HI or 4LO?
4HI you should be able to transfer to in motion, up to 40mph or so...although I still think it's better to slow down when switching.
4LO, trans must be in neutral, you should be rolling about 2-3mph, and it's one motion through 4HI, N, to 4LO on the t-case lever..
This is all in your manual btw...

not hard at all, maybe you should go to your dealer and see if there is a problem with the transfer lever or any part?
I don't think forcing it is a good idea.

4 HI...however I solved the problem. Sometimes we should just read the owners manual. It was raining today so I decided to try it, and it shifted with no problem. Thanks for all the input. I owned a Jeep CJ-7 in 1985 and had forgotten how much fun a Jeep can be.
