Hi Everyone

Just got a 2007 3.7 4x4 Auto Sport for my new toy/tow vehicle and have some questions.

Service items:
It has 97 500 miles on it with a spotty service history but runs pretty clean.
Service items I will be doing in the next few days
Oil and oil filter
Air filter
Front and rear diff oils
Transfer case oil
Transmission oil and filter - A bit weary of doing this as my one doesn't have a transmission dipstick. The engine oil dipstick hits the bottom of the ******. Can I use this method and if so does anyone know the correct height up the dipstick?

Will probably do the spark plugs as well, funds permitting but it's not missing at all.

My car has not had the towbar or rear lower control arm safety recalls done so will do those soon too (it does have an aftermarket towbar/hitch, but will let them check anyway).

The car passed road inspection but the rear end feels very loose when driving down the highway. If you wiggle the steering side to side it unsettles the rear end very quickly. Any idea where to start looking here?

Ride height it sitting at 18.5" front and back. It has skid protection front to back so bottoms out pretty quickly on twin paths.
Being on the butt end of the earth, purchasing full suspension lift kits from the US is horribly expensive, but a local company here that specialises in springs can make up a new set for me at a reasonable price with springs 1mm thicker than stock and at the height I want. Was thinking along the lines of 1 to 1.5 inch higher than stock and call it a day.
Would new standard length shocks work on a 1.5" lift?
Intend on running 245/70R16 A/T tyres.

Oh and need to change the transfer case switch, PO had it disconnected because it went faulty, got a price today, they're pretty expensive :Whoa:

Phew that was a mouthful :)
Thanks Guys.

How is the weather there in Durbs lately?
The whole country could do with a bit of rain!

When you change plugs make sure you get NGK plugs gapped correctly.

You can download the 2006 Jeep KJ Service Manuals here....2007 manuals are very rare to get hold of but the maintenance should be the same. Includes wiring diagrams in Section 8W but wire colors will be different...hopefully you never need to go there.

The transfer case switch has resistors inside it to light up the correct lamp as the switch moves. I have the same problem on my 2002 2.5 CRD that I need to check out.
I came across a post somewhere recently giving the resistance readings...I will try to find it. I seldom use 4X4 Hi or Low.....I do not have full time 4X4.

Only problem with the switch not working is that when in 4X4 Low mode the ECM supposedly changes the power output to give that extra strength when in difficulty.

How much are the Stealers asking for that switch? I believe the same switch is used on both the Sec Trac and the Command Trac systems.

Thanks Bill, been looking for one of those manuals (holy smokes it's huge)

Was quoted just over R1500 for the switch.

Getting a bit of rain here but no where near what we normally have this time of year
