o8k, Corwyyn, and I ran the Mt. Lemmon Control Road - nothing much to speak of, but it's very bouncy to settle in o8k's newly installed Frankenlift springs on the CRD. Very heavy springs.

A little ways up we stopped for a landscape photo op, right in front of a hill with a trail that went up it:

So o8k tried it, but started sliding in the crumbly stuff toward the top:

...and came back down.

So Corwyyn tried it, and did his best to stay away from the crumbly stuff:

From henceforth this hill will be known as Mount Corwyyn.

But, of course, what goes up...

just noticed how there's like dust floating over 1000' from my jeep in that one shot. W/ all the squeeling going on, no wonder. When Corwyyn ran it i could hear the rocks crunching from way back where we were taking pics from.

Yes, it should be noted that the side trail was a lot steeper than it looks in these pictures.

Wow 2.45 for Unleaded!! What year was that picture taken? 2005?
No, that was on the way back to Phoenix. Saturday afternoon I topped off in east Mesa at a QuikTrip for $2.51. Except for Tucson and the Phoenix area the rest of AZ is about 10-15 cents higher, but still not too bad (and I never thought I'd refer to $2.50+ for gas as 'not bad' :p )

Casey, Russ, Kevin.... nice pictures from everyone and it looks like you had a good day on the trail.

Kevin, good job on climbing that hill. I don't know if you remember me talking about a cool hill I wanted to do on our last trip to Four Peaks that I never found. Well, that's the hill I was thinking of... just that I had associated it with Four Peaks, no wonder I couldn't find it. And yeah it's a challege to get up there with all that loose stuff. Since my little flag from pre-fire days wasn't still there when you climbed it, I guess your the new namesake for it now.... :D

tehee... We have not hit under $2.50 in months here in Detroit. It's $2.75+ right now.

Oh man...wife was out of town this weekend with the Jeep. We've never gone up the control road. I'd love to give it a run. Doubt i'd have made it in the vette though :D

I believe the control road is actually a shorter drive for us than the mount lemon highway since we're ont he northwest side of town.

The first time I did the control road, we stopped just below the mine about halfway up (the gates were locked). While we were there a Hyundai Sonata and a Kia something-or-other came driving up. Slowly and carefully. It's not difficult, just bouncy.

I'm going to have to do it again soon so I can try to climb Mt. Corwyyn, once I have better tires.

Yeppers, it was fun to say the least (and a downhill pucker factor of 7.0 out of 10  ). Here's a montage shot I just put together in photoshop:

Yeah, thats why it helps to listen to the problems someone else had so you know what to avoid :D ;) Next time I'll go first and let you watch my mistakes :)

Those are from the pictures you took with my camera. I just layered them all together in PS then did the work to make it all look like one multiple exposure.
