I've seen at least one KJ there with a home brew/ aftermarket tube bumper.
I personally don't like it because it shows off the vehicles "Innards" and looks unfinished...
But I might give you some idea's.
One thing I'be always thought would be cool -
Let's assume we have magically have a steel bumper that's the exact shape of the OEM plastic piece. I thought it'd be really cool to have the top "step plates" hinged and have the bumper hollow to allow for storage. Would a bottle jack fit? I'd be able to get the tire iron out from under the rear seat, I could also throw a tow strap, bungee cords, maybe even a receiver in there. For strength, 2 or so supports could be placed on the inside, which would just make some compartments.![]()

It is just a shell, like front near as i can tell.Since it seems that people like the idea - what the heck is inside the plastic bumper? I'll have to go look for some pics. Maybe it'd be a relatively easy mod to throw a few items in there. Only thing with the plastic bumper is it's made crunch on impact - so we'd want to make sure non-breakable stuff is in there, like tow straps and bungee cords.
