I have been searching the web for anything that will give me more horsepower and more throttle response. Now, if I try to get around anyone the shift points send my tach to 5 plus. I am thinking of going with a stage II chip?? Any suggestions??

Forget the chip spend your money wisely and regear
trying to pull around 32s is the issue, not trying to find more power
Not matter what you add it'll never make up for regearing

Yes, exactly, defiantly need to either regear or drop back down to a 29-30" tire.

4.11's or 4.56's for a regear...

I think regearing would be cheaper in the long run.

Not if he still has his OEM wheels etc...

That thing will be a real gas hog even after the regear... ;)

I dunno about the OP, but I wouldn't want to be buying gas for it. :D

Good luck getting those to work!
Only Dana Spicer makes the 4.10s for the front NO MATTER what the websites say
JeepinByAl has them
we have a D30a ................

real gas hog ????How do you figure?
With the tires he has now and 4.10s it will be almost back to stock specs
I get 20-21 all day long , and some trip upwards to 23 mpg

With 33's?

That's makes around a 3.63 actual I believe... Not too bad, still losing some power though from the 3.73 actual with OEM specs.

Would be good for the HWY, might have some shifting on the hills though.

Just did the calculations :D

That's why I was thinking 4.56's..... That would put it around 4.01 with 33's.

Sorry not following the thought process on 4.01s with 33s ????????
With 32s I wish I had 4.56s actually and think I'd get even better overall mileage.
Stock gearing and 32s ***** big time, you can't run down a straight level road without it shifting back and forth searching for the right gear every 100 foot plus running hotter due to trans slipping

Yes I know that, as it would be more efficient overall.

With stock gearing it would really suck with 32's, no power etc and the shifting etc.

Actual really would need to be in the 3.73-4.0~ range for best performance balance.

That would be the 4.56's so you are correct.

With the current 4.10 and 32's you are at 3.78 so that's perfect.... Pretty much what I get with my 29's (235/70/16) and stock gears... 3.79... It flies and no shifting etc...

With stock gears and 32's you were at 3.44 and yes that *****.....

Ok I see where your brain is leading you now.:signs8:
But then have to figure in with lift, weight of tires/wheels/ skids/steel bumpers tools/extra parts/extra 5 gallon gas etc that I carry all of the time even lower is better to keep my fat little piglet moving :rocking:

Think of a Ram 1500 with 3.55's and 265/70/17's...... :lazer::lazer:

Should be 3.92's or 4.10's really....

and then you have folks who think it makes no difference. Talking to a guy the other day who was running 35s on his gasser Chevrolet pickup with 6 inches of lift,........and stock gearing, he was telling me he never noticed any difference from stock after he installed the taller tires except it shifted funny and more often :icon_eek:

Sounds like he is in denial....

Likely getting around 10 MPG or less right now and he will burn up his transmission ...

Gears make a HUGE difference in performance....

Going a lot taller without changing the gears is not good, more than 1" taller that is...

We saw a moron with a Chevy diesel yesterday (in stop and go traffic thanks to the Ches. Bay Bridge fire) with 8" lift and stock tires. Sounded like it really had to spool up to get moving.

I can vouch that gearing makes a huge difference for the 3.7. My WK has the same engine, weighs a few hundred more than the KJ, tires are just a bit shorter (245/65/17 on the WK, 245/70/17 on the KJ) and it feels just as quick, if not quicker than the KJ, due to having a better geared ******.

Tom you are getting 20-21 mpg? Is that highway? I am bone stock and lucky to get 16 mpg in mixed driving. I can get 20-21 on the highway.
