Hey guys...so, I picked up a Metra AIPCR01ID. The description is this:

The audio interface is for Chrysler/Dodge vehicles that do not have a CAN BUS system, model years '98 to '07. The unit includes a cable that will charge the iPod during use, and has a video out for video-capable iPods. There is also a 3.5 mm port on the interface that will allow other MP3 players or external devices to play audio through your car stereo.

I have the standard RBK radio. There's a provision for the CD changer, and this unit does plug in. I have a non-ipod MP3 player, so I'm using the 3.5mm jack. I've tried two of these, and they will not power on. From what I understand, I'd need to hit the "Mode" button to switch to CD changer. Nothing happens. There's an LED on the adapter box, and it won't light up.

Any ideas? Am I doing something wrong?? I don't believe '07 is CAN BUS.

And, the answer is....it will NOT work.

I contacted Metra tech support this morning, and they told me that they have stopped listing that interface with newer Jeeps as they were having a load of issues with the interface and radio.

Kind of strange that it worked with the older radio, but not the newer. Greimster on here had one for sale that was working fine in his KJ.

So, Metra recommended I pick up the Mopar interface. I'll have to look into that.

That's what it sounded like, and the tech on the phone sounded like he was at a loss as to why. They don't seem to have any interest in figuring it out - makes sense as '08 MY's all have updated radios anyways. Why put the effort in for 1 or so years that a radio got funky?

Well technically that's 3 model years. :p 2005, 2006, and 2007.

If I were Metra, I'd certainly wonder why... that's a loss of sales. And every other Chrysler out there has those radios for those same model years.

But, I believe greimster had one on his '05 or '06 RBK and it was fine. Something else must have changed

Thanks, but nah - the company told me to keep the units I have and they are going to issue a refund.

I have a buddy with a TJ and a 2000 Neon that has no CD player in either. I told him we'd try them out in his.

I am considering just going with an aftermarket HU with a 3.5mm input. That'd solve this problem, plus run my sub better anyway. CC has a Pioneer I am considering, it's only $90.
I just want it to be back-lit green to match the interior as closely as possible. This one is ;)

With as much as these things cost, you may as well get a new stereo and replace the factory POS, you'll be much happier
