Watch for crosswind on an interstate... The jeep gets a little squirrely at highway speeds with that much wing going on.

Toss the girlfriend or wife up on the mattress and give her each end of a piece of rope looped through the roof bars and mattress and yell "hang on honey"....

Ok i was being a smartass don't do that... Strap it down good and you should be alright. Just drive slow and careful.

I moved a couple of 4x8 sheets of drywall on the roof (with crossbars installed), I used ratchet straps and went through the windows.

I also took my 30' recovery strap and went from my front hitch over the top and tied it off to my back hitch for additional security. I know not everyone has a front hitch, but when I've seen mattresses being transported you usually see it lifting in the front, so a piece of rope or strap/straps going front to back would probably be a good idea too.

Have it delivered. Save yourself the headache and potential for disaster. Or, better yet, find a buddy with a truck and offer beer/gas for the move.

When I was in the army, two guys from the base died while holding a mattress on top of a van. Obviously not the sharpest tools in the shed..

You shouldn't have a problem. Just tie it down real good and take it slow.

Too bad you wern't close to me. I have a trailer and you could put the mattress and half your furniture in it too.
