Bought a nice low mileage, well at least to me since it only has 44k on it, 2003 Jeep Liberty Sport 4x4, and the same night on the way home i had a deer-vehicle accident. There was no avoiding it, high grass in the ditch, he came out and i caught his head on the lower front corner. He dropped and i drove over his friggin neck. He flopped into the ditch and promptly died. Good thing or i would have broke his neck for him if he was just winged.

It's mostly cosmetic damage thankfully, i saved the foglight and the marker light, they are ok but were hanging loose so i removed them before they could get damaged. Bad thing is i was heading home from buying it, had absolutely nothing on hand but plastic grocery bags from a stop at Wal-Mart on the way home, so i was taking the shopping bags and using them to tie up the wheel well liner to keep it off the tire. It's busted anyway but i didn't know how to remove it the rest of the way. The fender flare became a projectile and its shot. The front bumper cover and the bumper absorber piece behind it are shot, even the friggin license plate holder is shattered. LUCKILY i had NO BODY DAMAGE.. Thank God!!

The spot where the bumper absorber clips into the sheet metal below the marker light is a bit bent but i think the shop can straighten it without having to replace. The fender isn't bent, all the plastic clips on the fender flare just broke and it flew off into the road.

The worst thing is that it also smashed the washer fluid reservoir and the washer fluid pump, i found the pump at AutoZone and its $70?? OUCH. The reservoir i have no idea on. Anyway, i bet the pump is more through the body shop as he will order from the dealership.

Off to the shop tomorrow for an estimate and parts ordering. Just want to cry ya know??

I have hit 3 deer but none with the jeep. Insurance should cover that and hitting a deer is not considered an at fault accident.

Good thing you were not hurt.

Yep, i'm sure it's no fault, just a $250 Comp deductible, but i got that covered thankfully. Thanks for the words of support, i really need that. The wife said it was the closest she has ever seen me to bawling like a baby.

It just ***** because i just bought it, it was hard enough getting the money to buy it, and then this... damn.

Could have been worse, my wife got run into in a parking lot with her PT Cruiser last year, that was $2500 in damage as the whole front clip was shot.

Pam's in St Cloud right?? Yep, i forgot about them folks. I used to have a 95 Neon and i was always getting stuff from them, about the only good place for Dodge parts around here.

They are a few hours north of me, but i can order over the phone or through their website and literally have it in 2 days! I live down in the SW corner of the state, only a stones throw from the SD border.

The body shop here uses them also for those parts he can't find anywhere else.

So it shouldn't actually be too bad if they got one, because he knows i won't mind used parts where they won't even be seen like that reservoir. The fender flare and bumper cover i want new rather than something that might be scuffed up.

I just got done doing some work on the Jeep today. Trying to keep my spirits up by getting some of the stuff in it and ready for hitting the road again after the body shop.

Sounds like the best time to upgrade! So you "Need" an ARB bumper, two deer, 1 tree, a few rocks and a Toyota Camry and so far just a little scratched paint on mine!

Ouch!!! Sorry to hear about that. That's something I've always been afraid of... getting *anything* new only to have it destroyed in a matter of minutes / hours.

BTW: In your link, I believe those are Corwyyn's pics. Maybe he'll chime in.

I can't afford any upgrades at this point, maybe some day!

If those are his pics then i humbly ask for permission and forgiveness! When i was planning on getting the jeep i searched the web and found this article online about adding some off road lights and other accessories and they had those pics showing the location of that body plug. I saved the pics so i could refer back to them but then promptly forgot what website i found them on.

Man that made it easy to quickly route power.

It's always been my fear too, now i've had it happen to me, buy a vehicle and crash it the same day.

I hear you. They are a real problem around here and I fear connecting with one. It's not just rural areas, occasionally one gets clobbered on our beltway.

I would say that maybe 80% of the accident around here are animal related. The stretch of highway were i plugged one with the jeep was along a state park, its a dangerous stretch. Around here we call it running the gauntlet.

The put up these warning signs with sensors in the ditch, if a deer breaks the sensor beam the flashing lights on the signs go off. Unfortunately i caught the deer right after this area, no signs, and high grass in the ditches.

When i talked to the claims adjuster she asked me where it happened, i told her, and she let out a sigh. That's all i needed to hear, i knew she was disgusted by it as much as me, they get a lot of calls from that stretch of road.

Got my shop estimate in today, nearly $1700 in damage. sad2.gif

Yeah i know, luckily the damage wasn't all that terrible. Got the estimate submitted to State Farm, an adjuster called me back less than a hour later to ok the repairs, check is on the way. Called the body shop and told him to order up!

Should have the parts Weds, and if i'm lucky she will be like new on Thursday or Friday. Just in time to take her out Saturday.
